I AM SEARCHING FOR RECORDS ON REV. JOHN WILLIAMS B.1747 I BELIEVE IN HANOVER COUNTY,VA. I KNOW HE WAS A PATRIOT, BUT IN WHAT CAPACITY? ALSO, I THINK HE WAS SHERIFF BUT NO PROOF. THANKS, DEBBIE
Bev, I have an old yellowed pencil note written in about 1961 that says "Cavaliers and Pioneers - Kirbye, land 1642". I'm not sure what I was looking at when I jotted this down but evidently I had intentions of looking it up. Took time out to finish college, raise a family, etc and today I saw your reference to Cavaliers and Pioneers Vol 1. Can you tell me more about this book or set of books and if in fact there is a Kirbye mentioned. I would very much appreciate any info. From other information I have I believe there was a Thomas Kirbye back in Virginia who may have been one of my great grandfathers, several generations back. I think my Kirby line settled in VA in the early 1600's, then some moved to NC and from there to SC and my great grandfather Richard Monroe Kirby, abt 20 years old, moved from the Spartanburg area to Smith Co in East Texas in about 1878 where my line has been ever since. So I am looking for the family from 1659 to 1820 and don't know where to start . My library will not get inner library loan from out of state , I'm in CA . So that has complicated things ! But worse then that they only have local genealogy books . So I am asking for HELP in a big way . Thank you for your reply and idea , I will see what I can find out . vlees <vlees@cox.net> wrote: As we know there have been some changes in the early names thru the years, both intentional and some just due to pronunciation and/or poor spelling. Hi Paul , I have tried different spellings and there are many Hulett ,Hewlett,Hulet ,Hughlett and on and on . In VA there is a HUGHLETT family that has told me that we are related, but I haven't seen any evidence . They also told me that at one time their was some kind of unpleasentness amongst the family and som of it broke off and went for parts unknown and changed the spelling of the name ? It would appear that your Lawrence Hulett was not an indentured servant. Why do you think he was? << I am looking for info. a LAWRENCE HULETT and family . He arrived in VA abt 1659 , a indentured servant I believe . I have no info. on his children or grandchildren etc.
Hi T.Boone, Every RootsWeb mailing list has 2 addresses. One for subscribing and unsubscribing. And one for posting a message to be sent to all subscribers. The one for subscribing and unsubscribing is called a "request" address -- such as VAROOTS-L-request@rootsweb.com. For information on how to use that address, go to the Help Desk, HOW DO I SUBSCRIBE/UNSUBSCRIBE TO A MAILING LIST: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/questions.html#sub Bill Allen <misterbill@pdq.net> gtcgb wrote: > Where do I send my request to stop receiving VAROOTS mail? I sent this to the list yesterday & it seems to have gotten "lost in space." ~Virginia York County, Virginia Records - 1659-1662 (Weisiger) p.64 It is ordered at next court, after Capt. Henry Gooch's return from public service, that said Gooch and Mr. Augustine Hodges, executor of the will of LAURENCE HULET, dec'd, appear and give indemnity for dec'd's estate. James Goodwin became security for Elizabeth HULETT, being accountable for 560 lbs. tob. & 5 barrels corn remaining in Capt. Henry Gooch's hands, belonging to Richard HULETT, her son. Ordered that Gooch pay corn to said Elizabeth for Richard. 6 Sept. 1660 Mr. Ballard: Elizabewth HULET, widow has prevailed with me to be her security for 500 lbs. tob. and 5 barrels Indian corn, which her husband, dec'd, left his son Richard HULETT, now in hands of Henry Gooch, my brother. If court thinks fit to deliver it to said Elizabeth, I shall be her security, she promising to convert it to cattle for use of said Richard. Pl. to serve you. James Goodwin I, Edward Wright, for good consideration paid by Gozen Deloine, alien, assign my right in above patent. 29 Nov. 1657 Edward (EW) Wright Wit: Lawr. HULETT, Francis Browne, Adam Yarrett Acknowledged in court by Joane Wright, relict of Edward Wright, dec'd 24 April 1661 lindarogers6330@sbcglobal.net wrote: << I am looking for info. a LAWRENCE HULETT and family .
