    3. Thank you Emaress: I am really trying to locate some sort of birth record for William. Maybe one of his sons married in KY, but William RACKERBY and an Elizabeth CRADDOCK did marry in VA and then later there were records of her marrying a Jacob LEWELLEN in Ohio Co. KY. My great great grandfather Joseph Rackerby son of William was born in 1803 in VA. It is just a brick wall I have come up against. I thank you again for your research. 1. Re: [VAROOTS] HULETTS IN VA
    2. To explain what "Cavaliers and Pioneers" is, I've compiled this information from the Introductions to Volumes I - V ........ Cavaliers and Pioneers began with 3 volumes that lists abstracts of the Virginia Land Patents and Grants from 1623-1749 by Nell Marion Negent who was the custodian of the Land Office from 1825 - 1958. Mrs Nugent had planned a series of 5 books to cover the patents and grants through the 17th and 18th centuries. Volume 1 abstracts patent books 1- 5 covering 1623 - 1665 and was published in 1934. Volume II has patent books 6 - 7 covering the years 1666 - 1695 and Volume III has books 9 - 14 covering the years 1695 - 1732. These volumes were delayed when Mrs Nugent's supporter, Anges Bernadine Sitterding, had to abandon the project after the type was set. Copies of Mrs Nugent's corrected proofs survived and were placed in the Va State Library along with the Land Office records. Eventually the set type was destroyed. VSL finally got Volume 2 published in 1977 and Volume 3 in 1979. Volumes IV & V were published in 1994 by the Va Genealogical Society edited by Denis Hudgins. Volume IV covers the years 1732 - 1741 and patent books 15 - 19. Volume V covers 1741 - 1749 and books 20 - 28. This set of books is the "best available chronicle of immigration of freemen, slaves, and indentured servants to colonial Virginia". There are 2 references to Thomas Kirbye in Volume I. The first (page 113) is for the land patent for Lt Richard Popeley - 1250 acres on June 10, 1639 at Middle Plantation (later Williamsburg) for the transportation of 25 persons including Thomas Kirbye. The second (page 156) states that Thomas Kirbye was assigned the land of Thomas Symons on Dec 28, 1642, who received the land for the tranpostation of 9 persons on Nov 25, 1637. Hope this is helpful. 3. Have you checked the censuses for 1900, 1910, and 1920 ?? ----- Original Message ----- From: ROYAL538@aol.com To: VAROOTS-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, September 04, 2003 5:44 AM Subject: [VAROOTS] Reece/Reese I am looking for the parents of Leonidas J. Reece. I found him in the Wise County, VA 1930 census when he was 46 years old. It said he was born in 1883 in Virginia. I would appreciate any help you might be able to give me. 3. I found William Rackerby born 1774 in Ohio County Kentucky. He married Elizabeth Craddock who was born in Nottoway County, VA. They married about 1798 in Ohio County, Kentucky. --- Millie Niswonger <mjnis@softcom.net> wrote: > I hope someone can help me in trying to locate > information on William RACKERBY, born in > Norfolk about 1774. 3. I hope someone can help me in trying to locate information on William RACKERBY, born in Norfolk about 1774. Father was a John RACKERBY. Are there churches in that area where he might have been christened since I don't know if marriage or birth records go back that far? Thank you. Millie

    3. From: Janice R Freeman mcdade-dna@juno.com To: ALL McDADE Descendants Announcing: McDADE-DNA Project Visit: the Sept McDade Clan Davidson home page at mcdade.bravepages.com and go to the: McDade Surname DNA Project page under Table of Contents If you have questions, contact me at McDADE-DNA@juno.com You can read more about DNA Testing through the Links at mcdade.bravepages.com or FamilyTreeDNA.com. We are inviting Y O U to participate in our McDADE-DNA Project which we are expecting to be a valuable asset to our paper trail research to show how our various McDADE lines throughout the world may be connected thru : 1. your direct participation if you are a direct line McDADE male descendant (direct male in your McDADE line all the way back to your earliest known McDADE ancestor, including yourself) by participating in the DNA testing. OR 2. your indirect participation (because you are or became a male descendant of a McDADE daughter at some point in your McDADE line OR are a McDADE daughter) by finding the fathers, brothers, uncles, nephews, cousins that are direct line male McDADE descendants in your family and urging them to participate under 1. above. First, if it is at all possible, please participate in the 25 marker test as this gives us a much better analysis of the known, possible, or potential relationships. Each and every participant is an important link in connecting our various lines whether our ancestor was an early arrival in the 1600's or 1700's or a later arrival in the 1800's or 1900's in Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, USA, etc. Our ancestors may have come directly from Scotland or via Ireland, but with McDADE as the primary spelling, we are probably all cousins in one way or another. You may contact me at any time if you have questions. There is no medical connection with any of this, just a check on the male DNA markers that are passed father to son almost intact for many generations, with an occasional mutation. It is especially important to have a male participate (regardless of age) if the male is the only or one of two male McDADE descendants of a father, grandfather or great grandfather. Unfoutunately, the daughters can not do this for this particular easy, efficient, and economical test. I hope you will participate in the launching of this great project for our McDADE's everywhere. Please inform others you feel should be contacted or send me names, e-mail addresses, and or snail addresses and phone numbers for other McDADE kin. I can't wait to see how our markers reveal our potential relationships, especially if many of you will select the 25 plus marker DNA test. 2. Vicky, I don't know if you are familiar with it, but there is a nice website for the early VA Stapp/Stepps. I ran across it as I was searching everywhere at one time for a Thomas Cooper in Virginia. I have a 2g aunt Rhoda/Rada Stepp who married my uncle Presley Patterson "Uncle Pat" Marsh in the Missouri Ozarks around 1900, give or take. I don't really know any Stepp/Stapp researchers though. 3. Need help in finding parents of two STAPP brides. One is Dorothy NORTH b. 1630 Essex, VA, m. 1650 Old Rappahannock, VA to Abraham STAPP. Have no clue as to her parents. Second bride is Hannah DURHAM who married Joshua STAPP II son of Joshua STAPP and Mary Ann COFFEE. Joshua and Hannah moved to Kentucky before 1814 where Joshua died. Hannah might have been born in PA. as there is a rumor that her father owned a iron foundry in that state. Any help would be appreciated. The STAPP'S were tobacco planters and slave owners according to two records I found today.
