I was not clear in my last post. I will be researching the deeds "on site" in November. Now what is best -- LOV or the Courthouse. I need to research deeds from around 1785 - 1825. Would I have my best luck at the LOV or the Spotsylvania Courthouse, or ?????? Hi I'm new to the List Group and seeking info on an Abraham HIX or HICKS who served in the Rev. War as 1st Lt. in VA. He is listed in the 1820 Census in Huntingdon Co. Pa. He may have had brothers or could be his sons - Thomas, Jacob Giles and Isaac Hicks of Pa. (Thomas Hicks & Jacob Giles Hicks were b. in Caroline Co., MD). Thanks for any help! Dear List, Seeking any information on my Unk JOHNSON ancestor. From a pre-1923 manuscript: "was a soldier from VA during the Rev. War. He had a large family of boys: migrated to E. TN after the war (where?), gained considerable wealth, lost his land in TN due to legal dispute, then, with some of his boys, moved to DeKalb Co. (Sand Mt.) AL @1820 where he shortly died." I have two proven sons of the above listed man: John Johnson, b. 1780/90 & d. 1854 MO. John m. twice. First wife unk., but there were 2 children, Canaday (b. 1810) and Sally, (b. 1813). John m. second, Loveth (Lovie) Pullen @1820. Lovie b. 1802 and d. 1882 MO. Children of John & Lovie: Elizabeth, b. 1821 AL or TN: William, b. 1823 AL: Eliza Ann, b. 1825 AL: Harvey, b. 1827 AL: Matilda Jane, b. 1830, Thomas Marion, b. 1834 AL: and Aaron Francis, b. 1837 AL. Family migrated to Texas, Dent and Phelps Counties in MO @ 1850. I have a great deal of info on the families of John (my ancestor) and his only proven sibling, William. Widow of William Johnson shows on 1830 census of Warren Co. TN. In another tidbit of information, it states that the parents of John & William established or bought an iron foundry in E. TN in late 1700's. This iron foundry supposedly was destroyed by "The Tipton Gang" @1794. Any help appreciated. I have batted my head against the wall endless hours on John Johnson & his brother, William Johnson. Have records of them, and will exc. Sincerely, Judy in TX Also, brother to John is William Johnson, b. 1774/77 & d. 15 Jan 1815 at Battle of New Orleans.

Vicky, O'Daniels married Whitfields and Kethleys (various spellings) in early 1700s in NC & very possibly Va. Are any of these O'Daniel given names familiar? Alexander; Betsy; Elizabeth; Frederick; James; John; Jonathan; Laura Ellen; Nancy; Owen; Stephen; and William. Both the Whitfields and the Kethleys moved from NC to Tn. - Green Co. and Montgomery Co., possibly others. The old Henrico Courthouse was at the time located in Henrico County and then the City of Richmond lines changed. the City of Richmond only extended as far as (I believe) 26th Street. I beleive they still have the marker on the corner there.
hello - i am new to this list and would like to ask if anyone is researching the THAMES/THAME/TAME surname. one of our researchers on the Rootsweb THAMES surname list has found information that WILLIAM THAMES was granted a license in 1634 by King Charles I "to import tobacco from the colony of Virginia." William THAMES was born in 1584 in Dronfield, Derbyshire, England. His father's name was Henry THAME. William was a merchant in the towns of Buxton and Chapel en le Frith, England. William is said to have had two sons: Thomas, who lived in London (in Bishopsgate without the wall), and William who immigrated to Maryland in 1666, living possibly in Anne Arundel County. There are records which indicate that the William THAMES who immigrated to Maryland in 1666 had three sons - Joseph (who died in Charles Co, Md), Thomas (who is said to have lived in Md, Va, and NC, where he died) and John (who died in Queen Anne Co, Md). Many descendants of the THAMES family moved to NC, SC, GA, ALA, LA, MISS, TX, and FL. We know, however, that some THAMES-es stayed in Maryland and moved northward. Members of the Rootsweb THAMES surname list recently formed the THAMES/TIMS Family Association and we have set up a web site, www.thames-tims.org. Variations of the surname include TIMMS, TIMS, THEAMES, TIMES and others. I would love to hear from anyone who has any information on any THAMES family members. thanks, Julie Thames Howell Jacksonville, Fl
