    3. Found this tonight.... ESSEX CO., Road Petition, 1708: [check -- might be order bk 4] 11 Nov. 1708 -- Deed Bk. 4, pg. 98, bottom [VaStLib, microfilm ?]: Buckingham Brown's petition to have the road running by his house removed rejected, the court determing current place is most convenient Wonder if this road is now 640?? Or Hwy 17 or does anyone know where Buckingham Browne's land was? I have been told that a house or Inn still stands that was owned by him..Anyone know where it is/was? John Spearman & B. Browne lived next door to each other. So we have John Vawter, B. Browne & J Spearman living in a row, so to speak. Derrell Oakley Teat

    3. I am happy to report that God in His mercy sustained us here in Prince Edward County. Personally, other than the inconvenience of having no electricity until this afternoon, we sustained no damage even though we were in the direct path of the storm. Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. May God bless you all richly. 2. William Gilbert
    3. For all of you who have any Garton (Garten, Gartin) connections in VA and states westward, we are excited about a 2 volume book about to be published by the editor of our "Garton News." This will essentially represent work by many Garton researchers over the past 70 years, as well as original research by the editor over the past 30 years, and will be the first "book" in print on this family which descends from William Garton (d. 1709) of Lancaster County. The first volume will concentrate on the descendants of his grandsons Uriah and Zacharia. The second volume will be devoted to the descendants of his grandson Elijah. Both volumes will total about 1100 pages and will also include much on allied families which were located in the areas of Spotsylvania and Augusta counties throughout the 1700s.. For more information contact: Burton Garten at <gartenb@iquest.net>. He is taking orders now! Gail Gartin Gilbert
