Does anybody in the Richmond area know if LVA Library and the VA Historical Soceity is open or is it closed still due to Isabel? Thanks Janet
Seems to me I saw something in the Times Dispatch about a "do" at the Historical Society being delayed. --- Janet Tennent <jtennent@starpower.net> wrote: > Does anybody in the Richmond area know if LVA > Library and the VA Historical Soceity is open > or is it closed still due to Isabel? > Thanks Janet > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion > online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Looking for any Campbell's (Camel, Cummal, etc..) who married Mehlander (Millender, Melinger, etc.) .. looking for a James Campbell who married a Mehlander lady, but any connection between these two families appreciated. Thanks in advance Margie Campbell http://freepages.genalogy.rootsweb.com/~mcampbel/ Margie Campbell's web page -----Original Message----- From: VAROOTS-D-request@rootsweb.com [mailto:VAROOTS-D-request@rootsweb.com] Sent: Friday, September 26, 2003 12:05 PM To: VAROOTS-D@rootsweb.com Subject: VAROOTS-D Digest V03 #187
Thank God we have electricity as of last night. Seven days with no power, phones or water. My home was spared any damage but my daughter has extensive damage to hers. I was at work (health care) from Thursday AM until Sunday PM. We slept on the floor. We only had limited power from a generator there so it was pretty hairy. They got the electricity back on Sun night. Thanks for the prayers we needed them and some still do. Nancy
Apparently Petersburg took another hit with a fire that destroyed more of the downtown area. I saw this in pictures in the Richmond Times Dispatch. I agree that all who were affected by Isabel still need prayers - and all the prayers we have received from those outside of our area are deeply appreciated. --- Nwin21311@aol.com wrote: > Thank God we have electricity as of last night. > Seven days with no power, > phones or water. No phones worked: The problem we found with a phone that has a power box type electric wall plug in & then the clip into the regular phone jack is that it must use electric. We always have one "old type" phone that you just use in the phone jack. Gas pumps: With all the new electronic gas pumps, I am surprised any even worked, they must have a backup power supply built in.

I don't know if anyone needs these, but when I went on my walk today I finally remembered my paper, pen, and camera. There is a small graveyard on the property adjacent to mine, and I thougt someone might want them. Will give directions and eventually photographs to whoever wants them. This is what was on the tombstones: (medium sized stone) Raleigh Ashby Dawson son of Spencer & Lizzie Dawson May 9, 1911 Nov 7, 1947 Gone but not forgotten (medium sized stone) Virginia E. Dawson Mar 19, 1916 June 16, 1918 Not dead but sleepeth (metal marker from Wrenn Yeatts funeral home) Clara Mae Pruitt 1931-1931 (small stone) Wade Maynard Hall son of Mr & Mrs G.L. Hall Oct 3, 1942 Feel free to contact me. There are a couple of other small graveyards in the immediate area that I plan to photograph and transcribe. For those of you who are wondering what is taking so long to restore power to everyone, keep in mind they are not just tree trimming and puting a few lines back up as they would after a normal storm. In most areas they are rebuilding from scratch - there is just nothing left. To make matters worse, the ground is so wet that poles can't stand - they just bob and weave like they are drunk - making it necessary to use many more support cables to hold them up. It's the worst situation ever faced by Virginia Power. I worked there for 33 years and get a few e-mails from friends working this storm - it's just unbelievable. Bev

Thanks Mary and ALL that have responded to my question about Williamsburg...Although I'm still not clear on what has/is actually going on there...I have FAITH my friend is ok! To clarify...I was only asking about the Death toll from Isabel in general, in Virginia...not trying to sound morbid, but if there was a list of names and areas released yet? I'm from Virginia and have many friends around the state. I may not always be in contact with, but would want to know and genuinely care if something happened to them. Thanks! Debbie
