    3. Do you have a county? Bettye ----- Original Message ----- Can anyone help with this question? I have a copy of an 1842 Va. Marriage Bond. Would there have existed any other document relating to the marriage - a license or consent? The man was 44 and the bride 14. If so, where might it be found? At the county courthouse? or the Va. State Archives? I'm hoping such a document will provide the names of the parents of the couple. Doris

    2. IN my gathering of information for my website www.nyvagenealogy.homestead.com I have found that a marriage bond can be found in 3 places. The place the Event happened. The brides parish. The place where the minister resides, or where he turned his records in. And the closer you get to 1856 and the present the better chances of it being in a newspaper. Doris ******* Since VA law was very well settled by the decade in which this event took place, and since a bond was posted, there would have been a "license" for the marriage and a "minister's return", the latter revealing that the marriage ceremony in fact was performed. Whether or not those documents have survived will only be revealed by a search of the archives, both of VA and in the county where the license was issued (same county as that in which the bond was posted). The license would reveal who gave permission for HER marriage, and the bond would have been posted by a close friend or relative, almost certainly. It also might help you to check the courts' minutes and any church records for the period within a month or so previous to and after the bond date, since her age might have required some additional attention by the county court of the marriage, the girl, her parents or of that bond. Good luck. Paul

    3. Hey Eric, Have you found the Sias that married a Shawnee indian yet? First time I heard about that my mother in law told me about it (but she was very vague about it). Then my son came home from school one day all excited - he had run across something at school about somebody named Sias marrying a Shawnee woman in Ohio - so evidently it is doumented. Now that will give you something to do LOL. If you run across somebody in your digging named Ruffner, then you will know for sure we are related HAHAHA Take care - and good hunting! 3. OOPS!! I forgot to tell where the graves are located! I think I remembered everything but my brain that day. I have listed everything again though. Location of the graves: Birch Creek Road, Keeling, Pittsylvania Co., VA Directions: from Danville: from 29 north, take right on Malmason at stop light after the two modular home dealers (I forget their names) if you hit the Chatham exit you've gone too far from Malmason, take left on Keeling at the Swan Lake campground sign Keeling will lead you to 360, take a left from 360 turn right on Birch Creek Rd (st rd 713 if the sign is down again) another way: from 58 east, pass airport, turn left onto st rd 729 at Airport Coin Laundry on 729, about 10-12 miles, turn left on Birch Creek Rd on Birch Creek, keep going until past bridge (if you hit 360 you've gone too far) graves are off a long dirt road on the east side of Birch Creek Rd. dirt road is marked by two white pillars marked with house numbers 1935 and 1939 go down the dirt road until you have passed the two houses on the right of the dirt road the graves are approx 300 yards down from the second house on the right the graves are covered by weeds pretty badly right now ( I know where they are and I had to hunt a few minutes) I had to knock the weeds down from around the stones to photograph them here's what is on the stones again (medium sized stone) Raleigh Ashby Dawson son of Spencer & Lizzie Dawson May 9, 1911 Nov 7, 1947 Gone but not forgotten (medium sized stone) Virginia E. Dawson Mar 19, 1916 June 16, 1918 Not dead but sleepeth (metal marker from Wrenn Yeatts funeral home) Clara Mae Pruitt 1931-1931 (small stone) Wade Maynard Hall son of Mr & Mrs G.L. Hall Oct 3, 1942 I forgot to add last time that Virginia Dawson and Wad Hall's graves have small footstones with initials on them.
