Barb - I'm wondering if the confusion is because of the origin of West Virginia. Maybe it would help unravel things to know that Clarksburg was in Virginia until the Civil War. After the war, West Virginia was formed out of land which was originally part of Virginia. Therefore, the dates are important. Virginia used to be one huge area - extending up to Canada and out to the Pacific Ocean. I guess most of us can claim to b Virginians in that way. Hmmm. For the sake of whatever - I have family that started out being Virginians and ended up being West Virginians by dint of where they lived when West Virginia broke from Virginia. I have listed them as (W)V and date. --- Joyce Ubl <ublj@comcast.net> wrote: > Barb - > > I'm wondering if the confusion is because of > the origin of West > Virginia. > Maybe it would help unravel things to know that > Clarksburg was in > Virginia until the Civil War. Larry, According to my Virginia Atlas, South Fork of Rockfish River is in George Washington National Forest in Nelson County. I found Glady Run in Spotsylvania County. It connects to the Po River at Spotsylvania Courthouse and goes to Mastons Corner. I dont find either Piny Mountain or Manascoes Mountain. --- Larry Coats <larcoa@aspermont.esc14.net> wrote: > If anyone on the list can help me approximately > locate the following land features in Amherst > Co. If anyone on the list can help me approximately locate the following land features in Amherst Co. VA c. 1789, I would appreciate the help: "Glady Creek" "Piny Mountain" "Manascoes Mountain" "South Fork of the Rockfish River" If nothing else, if anyone can give me approximate distance/direction for these places with Amherst, the county seat, as the point of departure, that would probably get me in the ball park, so to speak. My guess is that some of these items may not even be in the present-day Amherst Co. Regards, Larry
