    1. [VAROOTS] BURTON Researcer New on the LIst
    2. I am researching George BURTON b. aprox.1760/65, served in the 3rd and 7th Va. Regement of the Continental Line. After mustering out he traveled with Gersham Lee of NJ into KY where he married Rebecca Lee, GL's dau, in First Shelby Co., KY, May/1798, then settled in Jefferson Co., IN on 1811. I have found a George Burton with a brother of Edmond in VA born 1764 but not sure this is my George Burton. I am hoping someone on the list can help me find (1) this mans parents, (2) his place of birth, (3) any brothers and/or sisters, (4) anything beyond that would be icing on the cake. I have my family traced directly back to this man as he is well documented in Jefferson Co., IN in census, taxes, land, and directory documents and by way of his will of 1845. I have not found where he was in KY yet. However knew that Gresham Lee was in Woodford Cy. KY and listed in a historical book for that Co., in early 1800. Thank you for any info that can be shared and I have info that I will share on this man. Billie Jean (Ballenger/Burton) Reese PasaPeruva@aol.com

His father is believed to be a William Wright. Henry md Nancy Jane SMOOT in Amherst Co, VA 10/17/1842. Children: John James Wright, Lucy Ann Wright, Wm H. Wright, George W. Wright, Albert Talley Wright, Thomas Jefferson Wright, Benjamin Washington Wright, and Elizabeth Hamilton Wright. All lived in Amherst/Nelson Co area before relocating (most didn't relocate). I find William and wife, Elizabeth in Amherst County in 1841 as signatories to a deed of trust with Henry. Nothing after that. Do any WRIGHT researchers have a Henry in Hanover, Amherst or Nelson Counties, VA during the period 1817-1914? Thanks, Frank Dean Frank Dean Arnold, MD

    3. If it helps any, I am finding references to a Fredericksville parish in Virginia. Some sites indicate that Fredericksville countained both Louisa County and Albemarle County. Fredericksville in mentioned several times on th "Louisa County, Va. Deed Records - Book B" website at http://trevilians.com/deeds/deed9.htm . A transaction involving Jacob Durham and Fredericksville is also noted on that page as follows: "Book: C, Page: ?, Grantor: Jacob Durham, Grantee: John Wicker, Date: 28-Jul-1769 Jacob Durham of Hanover co. to John Wicker of Louisa Co. Lb 21 5s.; 100 acres in Fredericksville Par. ....Thomas Wickers corner...George Thomasons line. sig. Jacob (Danham) Anne Durham". Several web pages mention "Rosalie Edith Davis, FREDERICKSVILLE PARISH VESTRY BOOK, 1742-1787" -----Original Message----- From: Emaress Nova [mailto:emaress_nova@yahoo.com] Sent: Friday, November 21, 2003 1:20 PM To: VAROOTS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [VAROOTS] Durham 1704 wonder if you are talking about Fredericksburg, VA. Are you sure you are looking in the right place? There is no (nor has there ever been) a St George County in Virginia. Fredericksburg was formed from Spottsylvania County and is now an independent city - ie, not a part of any county. According to my book, Virginia Genealogical Research by George K. Schweitzer, Fredericksburg was formed in 1879 but it also says that recrods exist for Fredericksburg going back to the 1700s, so apparantly they were keeping separate records long before the city was formed. 1. [VAROOTS] anyone researching Gilliland?
    2. Nena Smothers
    3. I have some conflicting data here..wondering if anyone is familiar with family of Thomas Gilliland, Hinch or any of the other data involved..any assistance is appreciated, thank you. Nena Original data: Children of HANNAH DEWITT and JOHN HINCH are: i.Samuel S. HINCH. He md1 Hannah GILLILAND, daughter of Thomas GILLILAND & Mary Polk. She was born 1799 in Hardin, KY. He md2 Nancy STANDIFORD, daughter of James STANDIFORD. She was born 18 OCT 1804 in Jefferson, KY. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fr Dorothy Dee: Capt Thos Gilliland b 1750 d Dec 12 1813 Hardin Co Ky buried Stuart Cem near Nolin Rvr & LaRue Co Ky Md1 Mary Polk had 8 kids [all listed born before she was!] Md2 Priscilla Huff abt 1790 - Hannah Gilliland, was born 1781-1782 in Donegal Township, Ohio Co Va(Later became Washington Co Pa). She md Samuel Hinch on August 7, 1799. Samuel was her father's age(past 50). Samuel was also a neighbor in Donegal Township, Ohio Co Va and migrated about the same time the Gilliland's did or maybe a bit earlier. **He was md to a woman who was also named "Hannah" and had at least three daughters and a son and probably more. All of the daughters were older than Hannah G and some of the grandchildren were as old.** The oldest daughter Elizabeth and her husband William Brownfield signed their marriage bond. Elizabeth had married William in 1784. Fifteen years before her father and Hannah married. In 1791, Samuel had bought 500 acres of land thirty some miles south of the Gilliland's on waters of Green River, near the confluence of Nolin Rivers, between Little Clifty, Caney Creek and Dog Creek. The purchase price was 50 pounds. This location is now where Mammoth Cave National Park. Not a great distance from the cave. I found a cousin Becca Gilliland and between she,her uncle, and Wayne Fourmont, we have made a connection. Wayne Fourmont is about 90 years old and have been doing research on the Gilliland family for over 60 years or more..along with Becca's Uncle Jim Gilliland. I have information from Hardin County, of the children of Thomas and Mary Polk and also from Priscilla Huff (spelling is different) and their children, if you like I will make copies of what I have and forward to you and yours. Also there is a Carol Copeland Thompson who applied with the DAR and was accept thru Capt. Thomas her relative was Hannah...do you know who she is..lived at that time in Arizona. I have even made contact with some of the people looking for Polly Morrison who md James Gilliland..we still have not found her parents, but keep trying. My records show Hannah Gilliland is the daughter of Mary Polk and Thomas Gilliland, Mary Polk was Thomas Gilliland's first wife, after she died leaving him 5 small children, he married Priscilla Huff in Hardin Co., Ky. I have that Hannah Gilliland had a brother James Gilliland who married Polly Morrison, they had a Thomas Gilliland who married Elizabeth Lemaster who had a large family, and one of the children is my ggrandfather James Lee Gilliland.>Dee _________________________________________________________________ Is there a gadget-lover on your gift list?
