almost surely, not then, though possible. There may be a business registry for that period in the clerk's office in Richmond. Ask the clerk, since those often are in the deed indices whether or not the business owned property. I am probably the person you responded to. My great grandfather was Woodson Beavers. Since there would be no death certificate, I am trying to find his full date of death and maybe the undertaker who buried him. I also believe that Mary Beavers who died in 1913 is his daughter. I would also like to find out more information about her. My problem is that in the 1870 census, there are two Woodson Beavers living in Pittyslvania County. Both are 45 years old, both have a son, Edward who is 12 (who I believe is my grandfather). Only one has a daughter, Mary in the household. I am trying to find out it these are two different households or if the census taker just forgot Mary on one. check the newspapers of that month, in case the photographer advertised, as most did. I found these the other day and thought I would send out as there are new researchers all the time that may have use for these. Print them out and put them into a note book. I have a copy in several notebooks so I don't have to keep looking back to one all the time when I need to look up just one set of initials.............Beej What Do Those Initials Mean? Initials after your ancestor's names may provide useful information that you'd not expected. The following list includes initials you may comeacross when reading old wills or other documents. a.a.s. died in the year of his/her age (anno aetitis suae) (86 y/o died in year 86) d.s.p. died without issue (decessit sine prole legitima) d.s.p.l. died without legitimate issue (decessit sine prole mascula supesita) d.s.p.m.s. died without surviving male issue (decessit sine prole mascula supersita) d.s.p.s died without surviving issue (decessit sine prole supersita) d.unm died unmarried d.v.p. died in the lifetime of his father (decessit vita patris) d.v.m. died in the lifetime of his mother (decessit vita matris) Et al and others (et alia) Inst present month (instans) Liber book or volume Nepos grandson Nunc Nuncapative will, an oral will, written by a witness Ob he/she died (obit) Relict widow or widower (relicta/relictus) Sic so or thus, exact copy as written Testes witnesses Utl late (ultimo) Ux or vs wife (uxor) Viz namely (videlicet)
Some may know of these and are up with submissions, there could be some that don't know of this site and it is good and growing....Each time I access this site I am amazed at the new info that has been sent in.....Beej FOR EVERY STATE MIGRATIONS.org http://www.migrations.org/

Hello, I've been involved with researching my family tree for a dozen years or more, and have been using Rootsweb lists for several years, but only recently joined this list. A brick or stone wall of mine that seems impenetrible is my 3rd great grandfather, Caleb ANDERSON, born about 1801 -- possibly in Halifax County, Virginia -- and died around 1870, also most likely in Halifax County. He married Nancy FIRESHEETS, daughter of Johann Heinrich (John Henry) and Keziah (Jones) FIRESHEETS, in Halifax County in October 1826. Their son, Charles Chesley [or Chesley Charles, depending on the source], was my 2nd great grandfather and he married Harriett Nancy WALKER. Their son, Chesley Samuel, married 1st Ida Hill Moss [of Nash County, North Carolina], and they became my great grandparents through their son John Buchanan ANDERSON, born in 1895 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, who married Carol Landon YEATTS of Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Unfortunately, because of the extraordinary number of ANDERSONs in Halifax County, Virginia, and the limited number of records readily available, I can't trace the family any further. I've done all I can with locally available records and haven't had an opportunity to do much online since my father's death 5 years ago. I'd appreciate receiving whatever help anyone can give me. If somebody can identify specific sources that would contain information useful for me, I'll be glad to try to obtain copies myself. I'm just at a loss for the best way to turn at this point. Best wishes, Richard B. Anderson, Jr., Danville, Virginia
Does anyone have any information about this cemetery. My great grandfather was buried here in 1899.

Mail often slows down during holiday times because we all spend time eating and socializing (and shopping) with/for family members and friends, some of whom may feel neglected by those of us true genealogy addicts (smile). Don't worry, when folks get their new computers at Christmas time there's usually a tremendous burst of activity! Janet Hunter
