Edgar A. Howard I don't have a definitive answer about your ancestor George Ehrhardt, but in the book, "Early Lutheran Baptisms and Marriages in the Southeastern Pennsylvania. The Records of Rev John Casper Stoever from 1730-1779", there are several Ehrhardts listed and most seemed to be connected with the Warwick Church in Lancaster Co, PA. One of the records was for one of my ancestors Rudi Maag who had a daughter Elizabetha born 1 Nov 1735 and who was baptized on 2 May 1736 at Opecquon. The sponsors were Carl Ehrhardt and Barbara Buger. Since it was often relatives who were sponsors for baptisms, it has always intrigued me to know who these two people were who were the sponsors. Rev John Casper Stoever was an itinerant Lutheran minister who traveled to some of the churches in Pennsylvania and Virginia to perform baptisms and marriages. Opecquon was a region in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia which at that time was part of Orange County, and later became Frederick County, VA and now much of this area is in Shenandoah County, VA. Rudi Maag was my 6th great grandfather, Rudolph Mauck who was one of the earliest documented Maucks in this area of Virginia. I know nothing more about this Carl Ehrhardt, but he would appear to be a very early Ehrhardt in this area of Virginia and you might keep this name in mind since he could be the father of your George Ehrhardt. However, if you know for fact that your George Ehrardt was born in Germany in about 1742 then it might be unlikely that this Carl would be his father, since he was here in America in 1736. I know that I have found instances in my own family where family tradition had an ancestor born in Germany, whereas in reality, it was someone who proceeded him. In case you run across any Maags or Maucks in your early family records, I would appreciate hearing about it. I would also be most interested if you may be able to identify this Carl Ehrhardt. <<Ron Moore>> rmoore@cybergate.com ************************************* In search of . . . . data on George EHRHARDT b. abt. 1742 in Germany, who md.
