    1. [VAROCKIN-L] Miller-Kite House
    2. I haven't been a member of his forum too long, and missed the original inquiry, but since someone brought it up, I'll volunteer my two cents. For Christmas several years ago my sister-in-law gave us a print of an oil painting depicting famous sites in Rockingham Co. One of the sites is the Miller-Kite house. The print came with a description of each site. (The descriptions are from "The Heartland" compiled and edited by Nancy B. Hess. Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society.) This is what it says about the Miller-Kite house. (By the way, the painting was by Dr. W. Robert Beasley.) "Miller-Kite House in Elkton is now under complete renovation by the Elkton Historical Society. It was built in 1827 by Henry Miller, Jr., a grandson of Adam Miller, the first settler in that part of the Shenandoah Valley. In 1862, Confederate General Thomas Jackson had his headquarters in this house while planning his Valley Campaign. The house was donated to the town of Elkton by Dr. J. Hiram Kite and his niece Mary E. Kite in 1984 to be used as a museum and community meeting place." Diana Fitzsimons
