Maggie, Two of the online providers, Ancestry.com and genealogylibrary.com, have made the Census Index information available. Of course, you have to have a subscription to access the information -- but it is there. genealogylibrary.com is also providing access to the actual 1850 Census itself. For the 1850 Census year, when you find your person on the searchable index -- you can then click on "Image", and the Census page itself will be shown (though sometimes you have to get the other half of the page image to see it). For those of you who already have subscriptions to Ancestry.com, just point your browser to: http://www.ancestry.com/census/main.asp For those of you who already have subscriptions to genealogylibrary.com, you can limit your search to just the 1850 census for Virginia by going to the following address: http://www.familytreemaker.com/_glc_/6330/glcsearch.html Maggie, since you want to search the 1860 Census index for Virginia, rather than 1850, here is the URL for you: http://www.familytreemaker.com/_glc_/6273/glcsearch.html Hope this helps -- Mary Taffet mdtaffet@syr.edu "Margaret K.
