I sent this to Margaret K. Miller in response to her letter regarding The Dreaded Roll Call. So decided to send it to the entire Rockingham List: William B. SMITH was marr to Christina SITES, in 1812, Rockingham Co, VA. Her birth: 1789 in Rockingham Co, VA Her father: Christian SITES, b.1755, d. 1828 both in Rockingham Co, VA Her mother: Elizabeth REIMEL, b. abt 1765, d. abt 1828, both in Rockingham Co, VA William B. or William Barnum SMITH separated from his wife in about 1843. She lived with her son David R. SMITH & his family in Rockingham Co, VA William SMITH's daughther, Elizabeth SMITH marr Jeremiah PARRETT in Rockingham Co, bond dated 31 July 1848. I have another bond dated 9 Sep 1850 for a marriage between Jeremiah PARRETT to Mary Margaret WHITMORE. So ... Elizabeth must have died. Was there a child? Was that the reason he married so soon after his first marriage? It is the same man as the signatures match on the two bonds. In 1852/1853 the entire family, living children & their families, moved to Warren Co, IL. John SMITH was deceased beore the move; killed in an ambush (family lore) & his wife, Mary Ann BUCHANAN, stayed with her family near Brocks Gap, but her two sons & a daughter went with their grandfather to IL. The other children were: David R.SMITH & wife, Elizabeth KELLER; Andrew Jackson SMITH & wife, Amanda PARRETT (He was called Jackson); Josiah SMITH & wife, Barbara HALAWAY; Juliette SMITH; William S.SMITH & wife, Catherine Elizabeth BROWNE. Also Wm B's housekeeper & her child: Mary OLINGER & dau Priscilla The parents of Catherine Elizabeth BROWNE were John BROWNE & Elizabeth ZIMMERMAN. They to went to IL. I assume Christina SITES SMITH had died before they moved to IL. I looked for divorce papers and there are none. The entire family lived in the Linville District of Rockingham Co. SMITH's are hard to research. Any clues will be great-fully accepted & appreciated. Phylliss SMITH DAVIS - Glendale, AZ
