There is no hourly rate when you visit the Historical Society. Just a flat $5.00 fee for the use of the library. (We are not subsidized by the county/city and must pay our own way.) The staff is very helpful. I think you will be pleased with the resources there. At this time, your son will not be able to access the genealogy library but there is a comfortable room on the main floor where he can perhaps read...or sit outside and enjoy this fall air. The public library has good resources as does JMU's library. Parking is easy at the public library; parking at JMU is almost impossible. You are basically on your own at both libraries. The courthouse of course has some records, it depends on what era you are searching as it is a "burned county". I would think you would want to start with references in the many genealogies in any of the three libraries. Hope you enjoy your stay. Do plan ahead for a room as when JMU functions are in full swing...football, homecoming, etc.....rooms are very scarce.
