    3. Tunis is located on Runion Creek (formerly known as Tunis Creek), north of Brocks Gap. Runion Creek empties into the North Fork of the Shenandoah River midway between Cootes Store and Fulks Run and there is a chimney rock near the mouth of the creek. If you follow the stream north to where it forks around Suppinlick Mountain and take the west fork you will get to Tunis, after a few miles. I believe that it is actually just over the Rockingham County line, in Shenandoah County. I believe that it was, probably, named after a Holland Dutchman from the New York City area as there was a Dutch family, by the name of Tunis there, which intermarried with the Runion (Runyon/Runyan) family in New Jersey.
