Tunis refers to Tunis Creek, now known as Runions Creek. The creek starts inside Brocks Gap and flows into the North Fork of the Shenandoah River at Brocks Gap. Runions Creek area is about 4 miles west of Broadway, VA off Hwy 259. I think folks who live there now get their mail at the Fulks Run, VA Post Office. An even earlier name for Tunis was Unes Creek. There was a Post Office called Tunis from 1900 to 1907. Postmasters were John H. Custer, Amos Estep, Charles W. Williams, and Noah W. Crider. In 1907 the office was discontinued, and mail was sent to Cootes Store, VA which is right outside Brocks Gap. Prominent families on Tunis/Runions Creek were Runion, Tusing, Biller, some Custers, and others. Hope this helps. Pat Turner Ritchie Researcher of Brocks Gap area of Rockingham Co, VA.
