    1. [VAROCKIN] 1860 Rockingham County Census
    2. I am transcribing the 1860 Rockingham County census for Rootsweb. (Never again will I criticize a census index.) Judy Campbell's Rockingham County cemetery site has been has been a huge help. I also consult the 1860 index--but don't always agree. Transcribers are taught to only enter what the enumerator writes, but there is a comment space where one enters the correct spelling if it is known, or an explanation of the numerous "*" 's I use in place of a letter. There is one name I simply cannot decipher, but hopefully someone can provide the name. His first name is listed as H. StC (the t could be a t or an r) The surname starts with an S. It could be Shrinkel--or almost anything. The big clue is that his occupation is listed as Clk of C. Court. Hopefully someone has a reference book that lists the Rockingham County officials. Family members include wife Julie and children Sally, Ada and Henry. If anyone has the 1860 census, he is listed on page 18, handwritten page #354, household 130, line 5. I would appreciate any help.
