    1. 1787 Rockingham County Tax List/John Clemens

    3. I would like to request a lookup from the 1787 Rockingham County Personal Property Tax List for a John CLEMENS, with particular interest if there are any Clemens listed at all. I wouldn't have a clue in which Militia District they might've been in, assuming that a Clemens was listed. In general, I also wonder if there are any pre-1800 or early 1800s atlas maps or landholder maps for Rockingham County that show who lived where and/or owned what property. Thanks in advance for the help! Michael Sellers

    3. Perhaps if someone is checking the Tax List for his CLEMENS, you would take a few extra minutes to see if there is any mention of the Charles or Carl RAREY or RORIG in Rockingham Co during this period. Sorry I can't be more sure of which surname was used. Sometime fairly soon after Carl RORIG arrived on the Britannia from Rotterdam > Portsmouth > Philadelphia, PA 26 Oct 1767 - he changed his name to Charles RAREY. He married Margaret Wolfe (Wolf OR Simpson) in 1778 in Pennsylvania, and they had 10 children born in Rockingham Co between 1778 and 1795 before moving to Franklin Co, OH. Hopefully, he appears on the 1787 Rockingham County Personal Property Tax List - we've never been able to find out exactly where they were living in VA. Any help - or suggestions - on tracing this family would be most appreciated. With thanks in advance, Kaye Steward Edmonton, Alberta, Canada -----Original Message----- From: Mike and Amber Sellers [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: July 28, 2006 3:24 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [VAROCKIN] 1787 Rockingham County Tax List/John Clemens I would like to request a lookup from the 1787 Rockingham County Personal Property Tax List for a John CLEMENS, with particular interest if there are any Clemens listed at all. 3. I see no Clemenses in the index.
