    3. Linda, I thought at first that you might be referring to my ancestor Daniel SMITH, but apparently not, for my ancestor by that name died in 1781. Perhaps your Daniel Smith is a descendant of the Daniel Smith in my file. I have the following: Daniel SMITH, born 1724 in Ulster, Ireland to John SMITH & Margaret HARRINGTON; married Jane HARRISON about 1751, died November 1781 in Smithland, Rockingham County, VA. I think "Smithland" is not the name of a town, but rather the name given to a particular house, though I could be mistaken on that point. The SMITH family to which this Daniel Smith belongs, as well as the HARRISON family, were founders of Harrisonburg, or so I believe. Daniel SMITH & Jane HARRISON were the parents of William SMITH. William SMITH was born 8/20/1775 and married Diana McDONOUGH on 12/19/1797; he died 10/06/1806. William SMITH & Diana McDONOUGH were the parents of Mary Kyle SMITH, born 09/30/1804 and married 11/04/1830 to William Burbridge YANCEY. Mary Kyle SMITH died 04/16/1845. We are having a GIBBONS-YANCEY family reunion in Harrisonburg this coming July for all descendants of William Lewis YANCEY (11/24/1860-07/31/1901) and his wife Mary Ashby GIBBONS (03/16/1862-07/28/1945). I'm looking forward to it. I lived in Harrisonburg for a few years as a child and always enjoy visiting the area. We visited several times a year until about 1980 when my grandmother (Charlotte [Yancey] BOICE) moved to North Carolina to live with my mother (Charlotte [Boice] DRESSER). -- Mary (Dresser) Taffet Syracuse, NY mdtaffet@syr.edu Perry wrote: > > Hello List, > > I am seeking information on Daniel SMITH. According to Chalkley Chronicles, he was a judge in Rockingham Co., VA in the early 1800's. Does anyone have information on his children - names, dates of birth? Also, any other information on him will be appreciated.
