Harry M. Strickler, "A Short History of Page County, Virginia" has information on the Primitive Baptist Churchs that were located in what is now Page County and also surrounding areas in Virginia. According to Strickler, a group constituted in Virginia about 1790 and came out of what was called White House Church, was transported to Ohio in a body around 1805 by its founders on account of antislavery principles. Three ministers went to Ohio with the congregation, Lewis Seits, Samuel Comer and Martin Kauffman. The church was known as the Pleasant Run Baptist Church and was located eight miles east of Lancaster, Fairfield County, Ohio, at Strickler's Cross Roads. Strickler reproduces a list, dated 1806-1809, of some 88 members, from the Church Record Book. Elder Lewis Seitz was the first pastor. There was no mention that any members on the list coming from Rockingham County. However, since Page County was formed from Rockingham County (approximately southern third of Page County) and Shenandoah County (remainder) in 1831, perhaps some members were from the southern part of present-day Page County. Strickler also notes that a reunion was held at the Pleasant Run Church in 1950 with practically every family from the above list being represented. Joe Baker
