The following is in response to the message posted by Howard and Beverly Miller concerning Adam MILLER, which read: "I am seeking information on the ANCESTORS of Adam Muller who settled near Elkton, Rockingham County, Va. It is known that he was baptized 17 Nov. 1703 at Schriesheim (Germany) and was the son of Johan Peter Muller and Maria Margaretta ???? of Lambsheim, but I have found no information about his parents, his grandparents, his Mother's maiden name or names of his brothers and sisters or other relatives that may also have come to America. Rumor is that one sister came with him, but I am uncertain of her name or who she married." I have been able to verify that I descend from Christian MILLER (bc. 1730 - d. 1778) and Catherine CONRAD (bc. 1743 - d. 1822), who are my ggggg grandparents. Other MILLER researchers tell me that Christian was the son of Jacob MILLER (b. 1697 - d. 1768) and Catherine MILLER (Supposedly Catherine was a MILLER also.). A Jacob MILLER died in Augusta County (now Rockingham) in 1768, because on 17 August 1768, a nuncupative (verbal) will of Jacob MILLER was ordered recorded, and his widow Catherine was appointed the administrator of the will. I have not been able to independently verify Christian's parents. However, a patent was granted to Jacob STOVER in 1733 for 5,000 acres on the southeast side of the Shenandoah River in the vicinity of present day Elkton and extending to the southwest towards Port Republic. Note that in 1733 the land was in Spotsylvania County. The patent was contingent upon STOVER settling 100 people on the land, and exactly 100 people are named in the patent, including the family of a Jacob and Catherine MILLER. Besides Jacob and Catherine, 13 other family members are listed; presumably their children. It is a well know fact that lists, such as the one cited, were padded with names of family pets and farm animals. However, it is interesting to note that one of the names listed is Christian. Other MILLER researchers have informed me that Jacob MILLER was the son of Johan Peter MUELLER and Maria Margaretha ULRICH. I have not attempted to verify this. If it is correct, it appears that Jacob and Adam MILLER were brothers. It is obvious they were contemporaries and resided in the same general area. In addition, my Christian MILLER named a son Adam.
