    3. Lewis H. Yankey Lewis Harvey Yankey, 97, of Criders, Va., died Friday, August 18, 2000, at his home. Mr. Yankey was born January 1, 1903, in Criders and was the son of the late William H. and Victoria Halterman Yankey. He was a farmer and worked for the U.S. Forest Service for many years. He was a member of the Valley View Mennonite Church, where he taught Sunday school for a number of years. He helped establish, and was a leader in the 4-H clubs in the Bergton and Criders area for over 35 years. He was a charter member of the Bergton Ruritan Club and attended 21 National Ruritan Conventions. He helped to establish and was the first treasurer of the Bergton Community Fair. He served as treasurer of the Dovesville Mutual Telephone Co. while it was in existence. He was supervisor and record keeper of the Caplinger Cemetery for many years. He also served as an election officer at the Bergton precinct. He was a published genealogist and historian of local families. He established Friendship Park, on his property, to share with family and friends. On April 10,1924, he married Mary Ann Thomas, who died January 13, 1976. On June 17, 1984, he married Ressie Viola Mitchell, who died November 29, 1991. Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law: Carroll and Eleanor Yankey and Harold and Bonnie Yankey of Fulks Run, Donald and Carol Yankey of Criders, Richard and Georgia Yankey of Catlett, Va.; eight daughters and sons-in-law: Charlotte Crider of Criders, Bernice and Douglas Kaplinger of Criders, Jean and Warren Estep of Fulks Run, Shirley and Ray Kuykendall of Broadway, Linda and James Stultz of Broadway, Lennis and Leif Dove of Timberville, Sharon and Canon Lantz of Bergton and Brenda Yankey of Harnisonburg; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Yankey of Manassas. He raised a niece: Kerlyn Dodd Farmer of New Kent, Va. and one foster daughter, Sandra Tutwiler of Salisbury, N .C. 32 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son; Robert Yankey, a granddaughter, Tonie Kaye Lantz and great-grandson, Chase Yankey. A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Michael Shenk Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at the Valley View Mennonite Church in Criders. Burial will be in the Caplinger Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bergton Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 19, Bergton, Va. 22811 or the Valley View Mennonite Church, Criders, Va. 22820.
