Would anyone happen to know....where would Port Republic have fallen on the 1850 census, District 56 or District 56 and a half? Is there any way to know the name of the town where the people were living if it is not specified? My great-great-great-great grandfather , John Burton, appears to be living at or near a foundery in District 56 and a half. His neighbors are hammermen, forgemen, and he is a carpenter. The numbers beside his name are 576 and 589. I am trying to figure out if he is near Port Republic or not. Thanks for the help. Karen Lee Williamsburg,VA
