I have been struggling to find information from between 1778-1800 about the family of Charles RAREY (aka RORIG, ROHRIG, ROE, RAIRY, various mis-spellings and typos, etc) and wife Margaret WOLFE (or SIMPSON). Family lore says they moved to Rockingham from either PA or OH sometime fairly soon after their 1778 marriage in PA - which I understand was the same year that Rockingham Co was formed from Augusta Co. The RAREY's had 11 children - 10 of whom were born somewhere in Rockingham Co before the family moved to Ohio in mid-1799 -- and I believe that a family that lived in a county for 20 years and had 10 kids must have left behind at least some records! (grin). I'm hoping there might be church baptismal records (religion not known, but believed to be Protestant; RAREY ethnicity was German; Simpson/Wolfe was English) - or at least land records that tells me where they lived in the county. I've not been able to locate them in VA in other sources I've searched (although I'm not very knowledgeable about VA research), so I'm sorry I can't be more specific re townships, etc. Names and birthdates for the children are listed below. However, by 1800, this couple and most, if not all, of their children were living in Ohio - Franklin County and area - which means that the family should appear in VA records for only about those 20 years - and then vanish. I'd also be interested to know if you find families with the same surnames as the people that the RAREY siblings married (might provide clues, although I believe that most, if not all, were married in Ohio -- so that would be an added bonus, but please don't feel compelled to look for them too). (have no info about birthdate) (3) John RAREY, born the oldest son, born before 1784; He married Elizabeth "Effey" HICKMAN (4) Charles RAREY, JR. (Rev.), born 1784 in Rockingham co., VA; died 3 Sep 1847; married Mary KRAMER. (5) Christina Mary RAREY, born 1785 in Rockingham co., VA; died 8 Jul 1860; married John Fleming SOLOMON. (6) Adam RAREY, born 1786 in Rockingham Co., VA; died 1 Feb 1839 in Groveport, OH; married Mary Catherine PONTIUS (7) Elizabeth RAREY , born abt 25 Dec 1786 in Rockingham, VA; died 26 Apr 1870; married Thomas HARMAN. (8) Benjamin RAREY, born 1791 in Rockingham Co., VA; died 5 Nov 1841; married Mary "Polly" ARNOLD. (9) Parker RAREY, born 2 Mar 1794 in Rockingham Co., VA; died 2 Jul 1870; married Sarah BURGETT. (10) George Solomon RAREY , born 1795 in Rockingham Co., VA; died 24 Jan 1850; married (1) Jane Paisley WILSON; (2) Sarah (Whetsel) BISHOP.
