    2. Chocy, Thank you sooo very much for your help. Do you have a copy of the actual bond. I saw a reprint of the bond but it was written in English with only John Haney's mark if I remember correctly. No clue that it was German. We have done DNA testing and found that John Haney and James Haney who both lived in the Swift Run Gap area, have a 99.9 per cent match. We know that Jeremiah Haney was the father of James. The road gang orders for Orange Co. show first Jeremiah, then James and finally John heading up the road gangs in that area of the county. Tax lists also show the families there. John Haney also purchased items from the estate of Stephen Shiflett on Dec. 17, 1776. We know from Census records of Greene Co. that John was born between 1740-50 and lived until 1840. The fact that his marriage to Margaret Miller was in 1797 when he was at least 47 and he had children born in approximately 1780, 1783, 1790, and one final child after the marriage 1800 gives rise to the fact that he was most probably married before Margaret or else had children out of wedlock before his marriage to Margaret Miller. There is also a group of folks that believe that Peter Haney of Rockingham was the son of John Haney and Margaret Miller and that that couple moved on to WV and was not the same John Haney that died in Greene Co. in 1840. The fact that John Haney, Jr. named one son Smith George Haney and another Gratton Miller Haney leads me to believe that this is the same John Haney that married Margaret Miller. Else, why the naming pattern. Would love to hear any other thoughts you may have on this. I know that there was a William Haney in Rockingham Co. whose children Jeremiah and Elizabeth were bonded out. He could be a brother to John that married Margaret. So many scenarios. Of for a time machine. Again, thanks for the help. Joyce Dittman
