Thanks to everyone for the location of New Haven. I am researching Charles Burton, who was there on the 1810 and 1820 censuses. {Sorry, Jim. " Lee" is my married name, and they were from Tennessee.} My great great grandfather was John Burton, who lived in District 5 on the 1850 census. He was a carpenter at a Forge, and gave his birth place as PA. But on later censuses, his children both said that their father was born in VA, so I think that he came to Rockingham Co. as a very young child, and that Charles Burton was his father. There was also a Thomas Burton in Augusta Co. who claimed to be born in PA on one census, and MD on a later one. I think that he was the brother of John, son of Charles, and that he was born on the trip from PA to Rockingham. I also have an interest in Jacob Cupp of Port Republic. I have a John Cupp who married my great great grandmother, Margaret Linkenhoker in Botetourt Co. around 1829. I haven't been able to link John Cupp to any of the many Cupp families of Botetourt or Montgomery. Margaret's son married the daughter of John Burton of Rockingham. If these names ring a bell with anyone, or you have info to disprove my theories, I would like to know.. Karen Lee Williamsburg,VA
