Thanks Maggie for sending me the below email. This email is for your and others information and to thank you and others who have generously sent me information, to send along the same information to another researcher who has a book or manuscript re the Garrisons, to inform subscribers what good courthouse records are at Rockingham County, and to inquire regarding the book listed below where the marriage license information was obtained. I was just at the Rockingham CourtHouse yesterday and looked in the records for this information: Lewis Garrison married Elizabeth Right on August 6, 1820 I looked in 1) "Index to Marriage Register Females L-Z 1778-1938." There were no Wright or Right indexed as being married to a Garrison. 2) "Index to Marriage Register Males A-K." There were no Garrison marriage listing for Garrison and Wright. 3) "Marriage Bonds and Licenses 1817-1835." There were no Garrison nor Wright nor Right mentioned for the year 1820. I did find a record of Lewis Garrison's marriage to Anna Crickenbarger, his second wife, November 1, 1840. I asked Marlene Key 540-564-3390 in Records who was very knowledgeable about these records (Lynn Lambert 540-64-3124 is usually there in charge of the genealogy room) regarding the lack of marriage information on Lewis Garrison and Elizabeth Right(Wright). She said that if it is not in any of the books mentioned above, then they were NOT married in Rockingham County. She said that it was more than likely that they obtained license and bond in the county of the bride, Elizabeth Right (Wright); that would be a good place to check. I just now called Lynn Lambert and she confirmed the above statement by Marlene Key. She also said that Lewis and Elizabeth could have also obtained their license in Albemarle (or other county) and have married in Rockingham County, with no indication in Rockingham County's records. One researcher said that Elizabeth Wright was born in Rockingham County abt. 1800, however, records going back that far are not recorded at Rockingham County. Lynn Lambert is checking again on my search and possibly any other information and I am to call her back. Joyce Brown said that they are very helpful at Rockingham County Courthouse. Indeed so! Question: Are the authors of the book "Rockingham County Marriages 1778-1850" by John Vogt and T. William Kethley, Jr." still living and hopefully subscribed to this list so that I may verify there listing.
