My hope is that there is a plot record, burial record, plot/burial location record SOMETHING that will identify where individuals were buried in the absence of a gravestone. My Sellers were definitely in that area as well. Henry Sellers, Sr., died in June 1843, but I have no idea where he was buried. I'm almost relegated to the likelihood that it was in the Old Peaked Mountain Church Cemetery and thus lost forever. But, since 4 of his daughters were buried in Mt. Olivet, along with over 4 dozen Sellers cousins and kin to date, I'm still in hopes he was buried in Mt. Olivet and just waiting to be re-found. His son, Henry Sellers, Jr., died in December 1857 at the age of 51, but his burial location is also missing. Henry, Jr. was cared for by two of his Sellers sisters until the very end. Both of the sisters are among the 4 sisters buried in Mt. Olivet. I would think that Henry, Jr. was definitely buried then in Mt. Olivet. But, with Henry Sr. and Jr. missing, it's a real headscratcher. Who knows. Could be they were buried in the long lost graveyard(s) you mentioned east of the river...? To: varockin@rootsweb.com Date: Monday, November 17, 2008, 8:00 AM I just got back into town and have not been able to search for my d ocu mentation...excuse my typing as my hand is in a cast... i am positive that i was told that there was a grave yard across the shenandoah river by island ford/yancey that many people were buried......some of my people.... and that the river kept rising and washing out the grave y ard..... now this was in the early 1900's cause my Theophilus died in 1907 and Columbia died in 1917.... her death certificate stated that she is buried at McGaheysville Cemetery which I assume to be Mt. Olivet but i have not been able to get my hands on Theo's death certificate... if there is one. The only verification that Ihave on his date of death is Columbias pension record I have been there at least 10 times and walked that grave yard from front to back and there is no stone..... It may have been Larry Shifflett who told me about t he other grave yard...... I just can't remember..... now..... i did find a grave for their son charles henry shifflett and there are at least to empty plots (no stones ) next to him which ma y be columbia and theophilus. i wish there was a plot listing? ive never heard of a grave yard without one.... i have called and talked t o the caretaker there, but he was no help. donna Mdvanpelt@aol.com wrote: > Michael and Donna, > > I just checked the 1885 Rockingham Co.
