I found ref's to two deed transfers---one each from Margaret and Nancy Williamson to Geo Smith on 17 Dec 1827 (but I don't have the text). Yes, I agree--Samuel didn't go to Ohio, but bro Daniel did. I can add only a little bit to the story here and there: The 1987 Quimby (Iowa) Centennial Book---which chronicals the folks whose fam's (incl Daneil's decendents, and some of Samuel's, like Albon) homesteaded NW Iowa, lists the Smith heirs' recollections as such: When Daniel Joseph Smith was nine, his parents (Daniel and Reliance) moved back from Ohio to Stephenson Co Ill. This would be about 1843. The books goes on to say that Daniel died and Reliance remarried. End of story. Was I surprised to find that her new hubby was her Bro-in-law, Samuel! :) The "rest of the (Samuel) story" can be found in some really cool web pages for Stephenson Co Ill: 1. His death, in graphic detail can be found here: Accidentally hit by a train. Newspaper obits are reproduced at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ilstephe/vital/samuel_smith1.htm 2. Additional great info/confirmation on this 19-person blended family may be found at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ilstephe/bios/rudolph_kencke.htm (Rudolph is Samuel's son-in-law and prominent citizen of Stephenson Co. That;s aboutall I have...not sure if you can "see" my fam (Harold & Clark) tree on-line. Have only been doing this for a week now...much to learn. But I ahve several ref's attached to Daniel and Samuel---and am pretty sure I'll be leaving Edith as George's wife (and adding Keziah!), thanks to your help! :) --Sharlee (Harold) LaBrecque Chester, Virginia.
