Shenandoah County was carved from Frederick County in 1772 and was originally named Dunmore. It took the name of Shenandoah in 1778. Rockingham County was carved from Augusta County in 1778 and not Shenandoah. Page County was carved from parts of both Rockingham and Shenandoah but not until 1831.
