I will throw it out for your consideration. I have a GGGrandfather named Samuel Smith Johns(t)on. He was born in Greenbrier County, (W)VA on 04 Apr 1833. His mother is Telitha Matilda Johns(t)on. Telitha moved from Rockingham Co. VA to Greenbrier with her parents, William and Rebecca Nicely Johnston in 1832. Samuel was born to Telitha in 1833. It was related to me, by elder family members many years ago, that Samuel Smith Johnston was an illegitimate child and he was born soon after his mother came to Greenbrier County. I believe that it is possible that Telitha was pregnant and was sent to Greenbrier County to stay with her older brother Anthony D. Johns(t)on and his wife, Elizabeth. I believe that the Johns(t)on family lived in the Brocks Gap area. Did the Smith family live in that area? I have no idea how to find out if Samuel Smith is the father of my GGGrandfather, Samuel Smith Johnston. Although I have found no concrete proof to this time, I believe that there is a possibility that Samuel Smith maybe the father of my Samuel Smith Johnston. If you have heard any stories of Samuel Smith fathering another child please let know. This is my hardest brick wall for all my 35 years of working on my family lines. Thanks for listening!
