What records are you using to "indicate births"? To the best of my knowledge, there are no government birth records in Virginia at that time. But I will also say that I had 3GGPs who did move from Rockingham to Rockbridge in the 1830s [based on County and Church Marriage Records, Church Baptismal Records, Census Records, Burial Records, etc].
