He was born around 1789-90 in Rockingham County. By 1810 he was in what is now Monroe County, (West) Virginia. He married Elizabeth Miller, and was known as Rev. William Smith. He died 1861. That he was born in Rockingham County is pretty firm, but connecting him to the Smith's in Rockingham County in the late 1700's has been my brick wall. Any information or suggestions from anyone would be much appreciated.
