That is why I always ask about the availability of marriage bonds or certificates from the Clerk of the Court in the relevant county. It is a representative of the Clerk of the Court in Rockingham County who told me the bond for Nancy Cammack and Thomas Piner was destroyed. She only had something from the minister who said he married the couple. I found a compilation of Rockingham County Marriages, 1778-1850 by John Vogt and T. William Kethley, Jr. (1984) listed under Thomas Riner not Piner. I think they have made a mistake. They listed the marriage as taken place 7 Aug 1842 and the minister as Thomas Rice, I believe.
