    3. I'm wondering if some kind soul(s) with access to the early Tax Lists for Rockingham County can do a look-up for MICHAEL SELLERS. I can't remember how far back the Tax Lists go. I have Tax List info for Michael Sellers for 1789, 1791, 1792, and 1793 as follows: - June 19, 1789: District 10 MICHAEL SELLERS - 1 white male over 16 in household; 4 horses - May 21, 1791: Richard Ragan's Company MICHAEL SELLERS - 4 horses Jacob Sellers - No Marks James Sellers - No Marks - March 14, 1792: Richard Ragan's Company MICHAEL SELLERS - 4 horses Jacob Sellers - No Marks James Sellers - No Marks - August 6, 1793: Josiah Harrison's Company (District 8) James Sellers - 1 horse MICHAEL SELLERS - 3 horses Jacob Sellers - No Marks I'm trying to see how early Michael began appearing on the Tax Lists and whether such info locates him around or close to any other Sellers in the hopes of determining family relationships. Michael may have received a Land Grant near Smith's Creek as early as 1781 before receiving a Land Grant for "60 acres on the east side of the Dry Fork of Smith's Creek" on October 10, 1785. The original Fellowship United Methodist Church was built and the cemetery laid on a portion of what was once Michael's land. This stemmed from Michael hosting Methodist circuit riders to hold services on his land. I'm curious if he appears on earlier Tax Lists, whether other Sellers are nearby, and/or whether the lists show Michael's responsibility for the tax or whether it shows someone else responsible for Michael's portion. Thanks in advance for reading through my rambling. Michael Sellers

    3. Michael et al: The first tax list that I'm aware of for Rockingham County was made in 1782. I'm seen a 1777 real estate tax list for Augusta County, which then included Rockingham, on microfilm at the LVA. I only have the portion of the 1777 Augusta list that includes the eastern portion of what is now Rockingham. 2. Michael, "Michal Sellers" appears in the 1787 Rockingham Co Tax List in the "A" List, Militia Company #9. Adam, Henry, John, Peter and Peter, Sr Sellers are in Militia Co #12. I don't have any of the earlier lists except an incomplete list for 1784 in which no Sellers appear.
