We have Anna Catherine listed with John Evans as her husband, but nothing more from there, unless there is anything in my old files from Rockingham genealogists. I'm excited to hear about your family legend about the four sons fleeing conscription into the Confederate army. I was just at the annual meeting of the Swiss Anabaptist Genealogical Association, SAGA, which was held this year in Harrisonburg, and we heard from Jim Lehman, a great local historian who has just published a book on Mennonites and Amish in the Civil War. (See http://tinyurl.com/pcv4f9) We heard that many young men from the Valley fled Confederate service this way, especially the Mennonites and Brethren whose faith forbid taking up arms. Many were the difficulties and adventures they and their families faced. I'll be in touch off line. I'd like to hear anything you have on the family of Jacob Hoover & Elizabeth Lam.
