If you run out of time and still want to read or review John Wayland's book, "Men of Mark and Representative Citizens of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, Virginia" it's available via HeritageQuest via your local library. If you have a subscription and/or can access HQ from home, you can read the book any time you like and, as always, for free. I am actually looking for some living Bruce cousins in hopes of finding the burial place of my great grandmother Jenetta Ann Bruce Shifflett, soooo I am looking into her brothers line and that is Geroge Richard Bruce. I found George's mass card/obit in my great aunts belongings. I figure that she must have been close with her Bruce cousins. I have never met a real living Bruce cousin though. I will post all of the information that I have on George below. Thanks to everyone for what ever help that I can get. It seems as though these Bruces lived in Rockingham County, the Elkton area. I am researching Breeden. I have Alonzo Breeden, born Oct 1872 or 1873, married Millie ? c 1895. Alonzo and Millie settled in Illinois and I have 2 known children, Bessie and Howard. Then it gets messy, as I have found zillions of Alonzo Breedens. I am thinking our Alonzo is son of Job Breeden and Malinda, whom you mention in your post. Do you have more info on this family? Hello, I have Elizabeth Eaton or Eton dying 19 Oct 1846 in Rockingham County. Could there be a record of her will someplace on-line that one of you would know about? Perhaps one of you has a reference with you that might have this? Thank you, Sue
Deb, Thank you for checking & the website. Sue
Sorry, I cannot help with them--thanks for sharing your link. You can check this resource for Rockingham County churches noted by Wayland, but Whitesel's is not on the list. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~varockin/wayland/chap14.htm The Brethren churches are on p. 244; Church of the Brethren on pp. 247-249; Methodist church pp. 262-266 United Brethren pp. 272-274 Deb Sue Prideaux wrote: > Uh-oh > Please try this: > > http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=srp1947&id=I6139 > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to VAROCKIN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > >
Thank you Harriet. Sue
I think this is probably the church you are talking about: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~varockin/HRHS/cem/pleasantgrove.htm That's the cemetery listing for Pleasant Grove Church which was at one time Whitsels EUB Church which would have been a United Brethren before becoming an Evangelical United Brethren.
