    3. Thom, Thanks for this information. Not being from that area, my research is mostly done through writing I was unaware of a Frieden's Church with a cemetery in Rockingham. My George Good attended the Shenandoah Frieden's Church. I have never found his burial site. My George's parents were Samuel and Dorothy Good. I have only found them in the Shenandoah area and have no further clue as to the parents of Samuel and no maiden name for Dorothy. If you have any info on them it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your reply Jackie On Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 8:08 PM, <thomasflory@aol.com> wrote: > > ?"Frieden" in German is "Peace" in English, and thus is a quite common name > for churches, and appears in many counties. 1. Re: [VAROCKIN] Peaked Mountain Church
    2. ?"Frieden" in German is "Peace" in English, and thus is a quite common name for churches, and appears in many counties. Friedens UCC Church in Rockingham Co, VA was previously Friedens German Reformed Church [and I suspect was originally Frieden or Frieden's]. It is on Friedens Church Road in Rockingham County and still holds services, although when I attended service there a year ago the attendance was rather sparse. My 2GGAunt Catherine Flory married Samuel Good of Good's Mill in Rockingham County. My ancestors for most of the 19th century lived on Mill Creek which flowed through Good's Mill, and my GParents lived in Good's Mill when they were first married. I do NOT know a lot about the Good family, but do have some connections. 3. Jennifer, I don't know if anyone has replied to your email and already gave you this information, but I found your Algernon in the 1900 census living in Dayton, Rockingham County, Va. It lists Algernon F., born Jan 1873, Nellie J. born Dec. 1870, Ressie F. born March 1895, Ward? E., born April 1897 and Jos. Austin born Sept. 1899. On the same census page, living in the house next door was Austin V. Coakley who was born Jan 1852, old enough to be the father of Algernon. Also, a clue that this would be Algernon's parents is the fact that Algernon named one of his sons after his father, Austin. But Austin could also be his brother, so not positive. I searched for Austin Coakley and found the following: Rockingham County, Virginia Births, 1853-56 about Austin Coakley Last Name: Coakley First Name: Austin Month: Jan Day: 6 Year: 1853 Race: White Sex: M (Male) Father's Name: Daniel Mother's Name: Ann Page #: 13 I also found Austin in the 1860 census living with his parents Daniel and Ann. He was age 7. I can't find an 1880 census for Austin or Algernon. I wonder if their name has been transcribed wrong. Anyway, I hope this helps you a bit and will give you some names to look for.

I know about the Shenandoah Co Frieden's church it was shared by both Lutheran and German Reform. I have been to that site, no church there anymore just a marker. You mentioned a cemetery which I did not see at the Shenandoah site. My interest is in my gg grandfather who attended that church and died in 1853 no burial site found. Any information would be helpful. Jackie On Mon, Feb 23, 2009 at 3:20 PM, <thomasflory@aol.com> wrote: > > > > So why would these other 3 children [not] be baptized there... 2. So why would these other 3 children [not] be baptized there... I know they lived to adulthood. Are you talking about Peaked Mountain German Reformed Church? [There was also a Presbyterian (I think) Church that went by this name] I'd suggest that the records are?incomplete, and absence of a baptismal record does not necessarily mean anything. My 4GGF George CARPENTER [aka ZIMMERMANN] was an elder in Peaked Mountain German Reformed Church in 1763 according to their records, and I feel sure that he stayed active in the Church for the rest of his life, yet I can find only some of his known children listed in baptisms there. My 3GGF William Carpenter was baptized at Peaked Mountain GR, but moved and was a member of Friedens GR for most of his life, and I can find Confirmation records there for him and for his wife Margaret WHEELBARGER, they were married by the Friedens Pastor Johannes Braun, they?are buried in the Church yard (as are her parents), and I can find baptismal records for all but their oldest child [who lived to old age]. Nothing about that missing record makes! sense to me except that the baptism took place but was never recorded or the record was lost. 3. Friedens Church in Rockingham County was founded circa 1752, is still there, as is the cemetery. As Thom stated, Pastor Johannes Braun (John Brown), my 4 Great Grandfather, was a longtime preacher there. Rev. Brown, his wife Elizabeth (Fall) Brown, and several of their children are buried there. The cemetery Thom mentioned is at the site of Friedens Church near Mt. Crawford that still exists. Sorry I can't provide any info concerning the Shenandoah Co. site. I am descended from John Bare and a daughter of Adam Mueller of Elkton. From what I have learned, his brother Jacob also married a daughter of this Adam Mueller and moved to the Elkton area likely to the South where Bear Lithia and the springs are as Jacob was buried just south of the springs. I believe John was buried at Rader Cemetery but I have not identified a stone for him in the last several years. I am descended from John's son Henry who moved to Jefferson Co., TN about 1803. If this is the family of the fracturs have you photograped or scanned them and could you please share those images. I have the transcribed Rader Church Records and a cemetery readings book given me by the church office a couple years ago.
