    3. Hi Phyllis, No, I'm sorry, I would like to have a bit more on the Lams, but I don't have much. My data says that Elizabeth Lam (b 1784), mother of my ancestor Abraham Hoover, was the daughter of a Henry Lam and Catherine Wolf Rader. I'm sure that others have far more information on this family than I do. Best of luck! Bonnie Phyllis Teels wrote: > Hi, > I notice you have Lam's in your surname list. I decend from a Wm. Have you already joined the website for descendants of these Hoover families, at myfamily.com? If so, I'm sorry that I don't recognize your name, because I don't yet know all the members. I'm researching these families -- if you are still out there, I hope you'll get in touch! We have just recently had the beginnings of a breakthrough - DNA evidence makes it look likely that the Pendleton Co. Hoovers are related to the Brock's Gap Hoovers. The other big question is whether we are related to the Timberville Hoovers. We are very much looking for male Hoovers from any of these families who would be willing to have a DNA test done to confirm our relationship. We have a DNA project at FTDNA: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/hoover/ Anyone interested in these Hoovers, or who knows anything about these questions, hope you will speak up! I'm descended from David Hoover's brother Abraham, who married Hannah Roadcap, the sister of Mary Roadcap. David and Abraham and their wives had a farm together. I've been in touch with other cousins who are descended from David, and a bunch who are descended from David and Abraham's half-brother, John, whose mother was Jacob Hoover's first wife, Elizabeth Shoemaker. Abraham had a son John Calvin Hoover, who married Margaret Delilah Roadcap (his 1st cousin) and their son, Calvin Bryce Hoover, was my grandfather. I've just gotten back into researching this family. We have a website for descendants of Jacob Hoover (the father of David and Abraham). I finally got to visit the old Hoover family cemetery back in the woods, where David and Mary are buried, probably also Abraham and their mother Elizabeth Lam, and many others. I took a lot of pictures. Please get in touch! (The same for anyone else related to us or researching these families, who may happen to read this.) 3. Good morning, I have tried for years to get someone in Rockingham Co. to fund a Scheels map. Gene has done maps of many of the nearby counties including Madison, Culpeper, Fauquier, Frederick and Warren (which may still be in the finishing stages.) His list of work is more extensive; his work is phenomenal. These maps, at one time and depending on the size of the county, ran in the low to mid $20k's. Gene rides every road before completing the map, adds names of places that no longer exist and as well as the names a location may have once been called....long lost cemeteries and churches that have disappeared, etc. (If it wasn't for Gene's map of Frederick I would never have known about a family graveyard. When we went searching for cemetery, we walked within 15 feet of it and didn't see it until a breeze parted the trees, letting a ray of sunshine peep thru that lit a tombstone. We have since brought the graveyard back from the wilds and placed a proper fence around it. Keeping the cemetery clean has become a yearly event that includes the whole family, grandchildren and all....it has been a bonding experience.) For this kind of money you get a large number of maps to sell. Frederick Co. map was done in 1974 and has been reprinted twice. For 35 years the Farmers and Merchant Bank who financed the project has been able to advertise its goodwill based on the one time outlay. Good deal! Oh to find a supporter for a Rockingham map in these economic times! The marriage license for Mrytle and Minor Foley indicates her parents were John J. Garber & Mary C. Sandy. The problem with this is that John died in Aug 1875 and Mrtle was not born until Sep 1880. Does anyone have any thing different or could explain the diffenence. My address is m.v.diehl@att.net Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
