I received a message from another descendant of Daniel Fulk and Sarah Trader. So additional information - received from other researchrs -Daniel and Sarah may have had as many as 13 children - all girls. Sarah lived a long life - into her 90's and died either in OH or WV near the Ohio River. And the individual states that the family history has Daniel's father's name as Jacob. Daniel died in Muskingum County in 1869 and is buried in Fairview Methodist Cemetery, Wayne Township. After Daniel's death, in the 1870 census - Sarah is listed as HOH, occupation - washer woman - several of the girls still living with her. At least 3 of the daughters married in Muskingum County in the 1860's. I have tried to connect Daniel to the Fulk's from Fulks Run, VA but have not made a connection. The researcher I heard from this weekend says some of her family believes that the Fulk/Traders were half German/half Indian to all Indian. Sarah's mother's maiden name was Rhine - of German descent. Due to several family traits (dark complextion, very dark eyes, thick coarse hair, and profile) that trace back through our grandmother (great-granddaughter to Daniel and Sarah), I believe that there is an Indian connection. I have a number of strong clues, but am not able to connect the dots. I cannot find any Daniel, a son of Jacob, born at the appropriate time. On Sep, 27th, 1879, he marry, Ella Margaret Offenbanker, just one month, after the birth, of my grandfather. This in it's self, is not all that odd, but that are very odd. In 1885, soon after his death, my great grantmother, marry William Deavers, from Page County, Va.. Also in the 150 years, before all of this happen, there were, a number of marriages, between the Strickler family, and the Grove family, in Old Virginia. Three of these stand out. Because, they were marriages of, two brothers marrying, two sisters. With the survivor, of each marriage, marrying each other, there for making three different families. Could this, have been the cause of, bad blood, between the two families, 150 years later. Also something els odd, after the marriage, of Matha Gertrude Strickler, to William Deavers, in 1885. There were attempts, to change my grandfather last name, all of them fail. You can see this for yourself, by going to the World Connect site, and fine my great grandmother name. I do not know, when this happen, but soom of these attempts, my have happen, after 1950. Any way, my grandfather David Marcellus Grove, met my grandmother, Barbara Elizabeth Yager, who was born on, May 25th, 1881, in Rockingham County, Va,.. Sometime in the late 1890's, and they were marry soon after. Once more, there are no records. Her two younge sisters, were both marry in Rockingham, and here are records. Two reasons, first, The town of, Marksville, missing records. Second, the marriage was in the home of my great grandmother. Who at the time, was very ill, and die soon after, in 1901. Years ago, I was able to contact, a Stickler family member, and was told, that there is, something in an old family journal. It is only eight words,"Today David Marcellus Grove marry Barbar! a Elizabeth Yayer",nothing more, no time, or date. Soon after there marriage, my grandparents left the Shenandoah Valley, never to return. They move to a town, just outside of the valley, Clifton Forge. There they started there own family, my father, Willia Yager Grove, being, not only there first child, but also, the first grandson, of Matha Gertrude Strickler, if she had live. But I can not help to wonder! What if they stay in the vally? A family, with the blood of, the Stricker's, the Yager's, and the Grove's, in them, What would they be like today. Well that is all that I , can tell you, Laura. You can look at all of my posting, to see,if I, miss anything. One last thing, my father added, the "s", to his last name, when he move up north, and marry my mother. I was just at the annual meeting of the Swiss Anabaptist Genealogical Association, SAGA, which was held this year in Harrisonburg, and we heard from Jim Lehman, a great local historian who has just published a book on Mennonites and Amish in the Civil War. (See http://tinyurl.com/pcv4f9) We heard that many young men from the Valley fled Confederate service this way, especially the Mennonites and Brethren whose faith forbid taking up arms. Many were the difficulties and adventures they and their families faced. I'll be in touch off line. I'd like to hear anything you have on the family of Jacob Hoover & Elizabeth Lam. Her first son, my grandfather was, David Marcellus Grove, born in August 1879, in the same town. The 1880 U.S, Census, has his name as David I. Grove. But his mother change it soon, after his birth! This I belive was done, because of either a, divorce or annulment, of a marriage. But there are no records, one way, or the other! As for the Strickler family, they say, that ther was never a marriage, in the first place. As you, yourself said, the Strickler family, is well known in Page County, even in the 1880's. I can not belive, that they would let that happen. But the Strckler family, of today, said that is just the way, it was! I do not want to say any more, on this message board, any one can read it. What is so funny, about it, is that it came to me, because of your answer, to Jo Ellen. In your reply, you said, that you are, a Virginia researcher. I need someone, to do research, on two of my Virginia family, in the town of Marksville, in Page County, Va.. The family names are, GROVE, and Strickler, bouth from Marksville, and the years are, 1875 to 1905. If you can help me, please contact me at e-mail address below. By the way, this is not, the first time, a query reply, did not come to me. Thank you, Ray Groves redscorsair@peoplepc.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. One entry in 1784 (Image #111) should be: Abraham BEAVER (not Beuer) He was son of Conrad & Mary (Kneisley) Beaver and married "Barbara Kauffman". the Kauffman name is, of course, spelled many ways in Shenandoah records. she was daughter of Martin kauffman and Mary Taylor. 3. Okay - here's the last one, and thankfully the shortest.  It didn't have a counter on the bottom so the image numbers are close to where they should be on the films (probably plus or minus 3) and there are a couple who I didn't find before I my time with the film was gone.      This is LDS film 2167846, Minister's Return, Shenandoah County, VA, 1772-1877 - this one seems to be mainly the 1820s.  Once again, these are my best guesses at trying to read the documents any and all corrections are welcome.  If you would like the scans just let me know.  - Julie     Image #105  - 1782 John BORS to Catharina JESEY d/o John Jacob HUDOCH to Susana PETIM Jacob GUT to Elisabeth OLINGERS?
