Would anyone know where I would get a photostat copy of an early marriage record? In 1793 there was a marriage between Mary Beaver and Michael Fred or Fudin. Matthias Beaver was the bondsman. I like a try at deciphering this record. Marc
Hi, I am a new subscriber to this mail list. Does anyone have any information on Lewis WILLIAMS? Happy to share what information I have. Supposedly this WILLIAMS family came to this country as a Prussian soldier. Phyllis

Greetings, one and all: My great grandparents' (William David Mills and Ada Omelia Knupp) Rockingham Co. marriage license (dated 21 Dec. 1896) gives his parents as John M. Mills and Martha C. Randles, and her parents as Franklin J. Knupp and Emma Perry. Meanwhile, this latter couple's Rockingham Co. marriage license lists John Franklin Knupp (he went by "Frank;" hence the switching of first and middle names) and Emma Crist (daughter of William Crist and Anna Holsinger). I have not, as yet, been able to find out why two different surnames are used (I don't believe that there were two Emmas). Conventional wisdom tells me that the best source is the record closest to Emma--her marriage record, which uses Crist; but why would Emma's own daughter list her mother's maiden name as Perry? Adding to the confusion: Emma Knupp's death record (from 11 Dec 1884), the information for which was provided by her husband, John Knupp, states that her parents were __________ and Annie Perry. If there are any Mills, Knupp, Perry, Crist, or Holsinger researchers out there, help! I hope you'll have the answer. Also, who was Martha C. Randles? Who were her parents? I have not been able to find a record of John M. Mills' and Martha C. Randles' marriage in Rockingham or Shenandoah. One source lists the name as Randal, and my grand aunt, the youngest child of William David Mills and Ada Omelia Knupp, not long ago told me that her grandmother's surname was Reynolds! Again, I am at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bill Derrow Washington, DC

Where can I find copies of old land deeds? In 1763 David Rolstone (Sr.) and wife Ann Copeland sold a parcel of land to Samuel Rolston (Ralston) and his wife Agnes. According to one source, this land deed refers to Samuel as David's son. I sure would like to obtain a copy of this particular deed and verify this relationship. Would anyone be willing to do a lookup for me in the Rockingham Marriage Records between 1812 and 1818 for Susan/Susanah Rinaca and a Welfley/Welfly? I found a will abstract for Henry Rinaca on Judy Campbell's wonderful site at: http://members.xoom.com/JCampbell/index.html In the will, he mentions his daughter Susanah Welfly. I'm fairly certain that this is the mother of John and Eliza Welfley. Welfley bible records at the LVA Digital Collection show a Susan Welfley as their mother, but there is no mention of a father. I descend from Eliza, who married 1st. Albert Jenkins and 2nd. Harden Kite in Page Co. I'm at a breakthrough point with this line and would appreciate any help that's out there. Pam Scott

At the present time I don't have any children listed for them but it sure looks like a pretty good fit since Sarah married David GOOD, and the dates match up pretty well. Does anybody else have these MILLER/GOOD's in their database? Rich

Thanks CMSANFO for the posting on the above subject.I didn't realize that Adam Price was Catherine Miller's second husband. I have LOTS of info on the Adam Price/Catherine Miller line as they are my 3G grandparents. With respect to the Prices. Adam Price was the son of Johan Heinrich Preiss (John Henry Price) and Maria Magdalena Wilhelm and Mary Catherine Price was the daughter of Augustine Preiss (Price) and Anna Elizabeth Scherp (Sharp). John Henry and Augustine were the sons of David Preisch amd Agnes Hoffman of Offenback. RheinlandPlafz, Germany. According to Anne Yates' book "Increases in Prices", Maria Catherine Price was born Augusta Co.,VA, 12 May 1765 and baptised 18 Jun 1765 per the Peaked Mountain Church Records, m. Henry Miller in 1787. She was one of eight children. This reference shows Augustine born 31 May 1722, died Augusta Co.,VA and buried bottom of Peaked Mountain, m. Augusta Co.,VA in 1749.. There is more on Augustine but nothing more on Henry Miller and Maria Catherine Price. I have some info on Adam Mueller (Miller) and his line if you want to compare data. Walt
