USGS maps are now available online to view for free at this website: www.topozone.com. (You will find Honeyville and Fort Run at 38.671N, 78.806W.) These maps include some features not included in the Delorme Atlas, especially at the 1:25,000 scale. Jerry Silvious
Honeyville is located north/west of Timberville, along Little North Mountain and not far from the Shenandoah county line. Fort Run is a small stream that runs through that area.It is a very rural area. The most significant thing there now is a very fine apple orchard run by Joe Showalter and his family. I am interested in knowing if your Millers connect with Michael and Phebe Miller that lived very near that area in the early to mid 1800's. Their daughter Mary(Polly) married Harvey Alger. I am researching the Algers. Martha Alger Burkholder
The current DeLorme Atlas shows Fort Run as a small creek starting at the north end of Little North Mountain and running east to Timberville where it joins the Shenandoah. Honeyville is on Fort Run just south of the Rockingham/Shenandoah Co. line. (This is the northeast section of Rockingham). I advise anyone who has family in Virginia to get the DeLorme Atlas. It is topographical so you can see mountains, valleys. DeLorme web site is www.delorme.com The Virginia atlas was $17.00 and worth it for all I use it. The problem with DeLorme is that it doesn't index rivers, streams, mountains etc. Lynne Hundley ---------- > I have ancestors who lived in the Fort Run, Honeyville, Rockingham > County, VA area. In reference to Capt. Holeman's men: the men with the last name of Cirkel or Cirkle might be the same as Zirkle or Zirkel?
The college is located in the town I live - Bridgewater, VA - just a little south of Harrisonburg. Before I had my family, I worked in the library as secretary to the librarian. I do all my microfilm lookups there! Beautiful campus! There is at least one Dunkard Church in the area of where I live - I think it is a small congregation. >>The church is also sometimes referred to as the German Baptist Church. One of their colleges is located in Rockingham County and there is a library there named the Alexander Mack Memorial Library after the founder of the church.<<
Does anyone know anything about Samuel Beard, supposedly from the Holeman's Creek area, according to "Life along Holman's Creek" by Joseph R. Wine, p. 220? He is in a list of men that were under the command of Capt. Jacob Holeman, and enlisted in 1775. Some of them have migrated into Rockingham Co., and beyond. Actually, I'm interested in all of them. Alexander Mack, founder of the Brethren Church, also referred to as Dunkers, immigrated to America with his family from Germany in 1729 on the Ship Allen. In the 1940's, a book was written about him entitled "Alexander Mack, the Tunker", by a descendant and one of the ministers of the church, Rev Ankrum. I would presume that Dunker and Tunker are variations of the same name. Dunker referred to their method of baptism by immersion or dunking. I am wondering if Tunker may be the German equivalent of the same name? The church is also sometimes referred to as the German Baptist Church. One of their colleges is located in Rockingham County and there is a library there named the Alexander Mack Memorial Library after the founder of the church. Additional information on Alexander Mack and his family can be found on my home page of the Mock Family Historian: http://www.cybergate.com/~rmoore/mock.html <<Ron Moore>> rmoore@cybergate.com

Does anyone do look-ups for the 1860 and 1870 census for Rockingham Co., VA that can help out Julie? ---------- From: Julie Noble <nobles@evcom.net> To: M Archer <marcher@gfn.org> Subject: Re: Taflinger Date: Friday, November 12, 1999 8:14 PM Hi Marc I am finally getting organized again after being away and working, and getting back to the genealogy. Did I ask you before if you have the 1860 and 1870 census for Rockingham County, VA. I am trying to straighten out the John Taflinger/Tarflingers. There is a John and Mary J. Taflinger, I think on both Census. I need to know if this is my ancestor or another John, and therefore need to know the children. Are there any other Taflingers or Tarflingers on these Census in Rockingham County? If you don't have these years, do you know anywhere I could find them or who to ask?
