    2. Mary D. Taffet
    3. Wendy, I can't tell you about any relationship to Fielding JOLLETT, but I can tell you a little about George & Susan CONRAD. George CONRAD (5/06/1785-11/10/1850) was married to Susan MILLER (4/10/1793-09/04/1861). His parents were Stephen CONRAD & Maria Margaretta MAYERN. George had a brother Henry CONRAD who married Sarah HARNSBERGER. Susan's parents were Jacob MILLER & Anna BEAR. Susan's siblings include Elizabeth MILLER who married Jeremiah HARNSBERGER, Catherine MILLER who married Henry KISLING, Anna MILLER who never married (as far as I know), Thomas Kennerly MILLER who married Amanda HARNSBERGER, and William Shanks MILLER who married Sarah Ann GIBBONS. The children of George CONRAD and Susan MILLER include George Oliver CONRAD who married Diana Smith YANCEY, and Mary Frances 'Fannie' CONRAD who married Jacob Emanual HARNSBERGER. Digital images from the Conrad Family Bible are available from the Library of Virginia's Digital Library. A direct link, if this link doesn't get broken, is: http://eagle.vsla.edu/cgi-bin/bible.gateway?bib=0004-56960&conf=010000++++++++++++++ If this link is too long and wraps around, then what you can do is go to the main page and search on Conrad: http://eagle.vsla.edu/bible/ I hope this information helps. -- Mary Taffet mdtaffet@syr.edu Wendymath@aol.com wrote: > > I am looking for information on George & Susan CONRAD who sold some land to > Fielding JOLLETT for $1.00 in 1849. 1. [VAROCKIN] Philip Barr/Bear
    2. E Rice
    3. I am new to this list, this being my first posting. So I hope someone out there has all the answers for me! In the 1810 Federal Census for the State of Virginia, in the Shenandoah Valley area, were two entries for a Philip Barr or Bear as Head of Household. In Rockingham Co., one Philip Bear had in his household 5 Males under 10 years of age 1 Male of 10 and under 16 years of age 1 Male of 16 and under 26 years of age l Male of 45 years of age and upward 1 Female under 10 years of age 1 Female of 26 and under 45 years of age In Shenandoah Co., one Philip Barr had in his household 3 Males under 10 years of age 1 Male of 26 and under 45 years of age l Female of 26 and under 45 years of age Can anyone on the list furnish names or any other information on these families? Where did they come from and where did they go? I am trying to pinpoint the Virginia location of the family of Philip Bare and his wife Barbara Gochenour who migrated from Virginia to Westmoreland Co., PA before the War of 1812. I am also searching for the marriage record for this couple. Any help will be appreciated! 1. [VAROCKIN] Lease & Release
    2. Donna Hull
    3. Wendy-- I think what you have is a lease. Usually on the next page will be the Deed for a more normal amount. A prohibitive tax had to be paid on land sales (during Colonial period anyway), but if they had been leasing the property, they didn't have to pay the tax. Most land transactions will have a Lease on one day, then a Deed of Sale the following day or later. The Lease was usually for a minimal amount. The wording of both documents is so similar, you have to look real close--or I do. I'm not positive that same law applied in VA 1849, but I think it did. Donna
