    1. [VAROCKIN] Wakenight family/census lists
    2. Tyson Remrey
    3. Hi, I am new to this list even though I belong to three MD lists, so I thought I would post the name that I am looking for. If anyone has any information on the Wakenight family please E-mail me personally. I am willing to share anything I have with you also. It is not a common name and so far we have connected most of the names we have found. Also if anyone has census lists and would check them for me I would be happy to hear from you. Or if you know a good site where I can check the on line myself that would also be appreciated. Thank You, Sharon

    3. I don't have the time to check out the site. If you want my input from my limited files on Harnsberger, I guess you'll need to give me dates & places. Approximate is o.k. but with what you sent, I cannot tell what century. If you don't have time or inclination to do that then I don't see how I can help you. Thanx, I'm doing a lookup for one list right now & I am absolutely swamped. Donna "Mary D. 1. [VAROCKIN] On-line Rockingham County Obituaries
    2. I'm sure everyone but me was aware of this site, but just in case: http://news.svnn.net/index.asp?start=true The trick is to first click on each of newspapers listed. Most, but not all, have OBITUARIES listed on the left hand side. I'm only back to November 9th and have already found thirteen people listed in my database in "The Valley Banner". I made the mistake earlier of clicking on "Search the SVNN database" trying to find obituaries for specific people. It doesn't work that way. Maggie

    1. [VAROCKIN] Yeager's Branch?
    2. Can anyone help me locate Yeager's Run, "a branch of Smith Creek"? The key to separating my Robert Williams from the other Robert Williams who was in Rockingham Co. at the same time (approximately 1750 - 1800) is probably through land records and I need to locate where Yeager's Run is. I have several maps of Rockingham Co., but none show that particular Run. Thanks for any help. Judy

    3. When I was in Rockingham Co. some time ago I was at Beaver Creek Cemetery and taking pictures of tombstones I came across one for the above. I took the picture because I knew we had at least 2 Jacobs in my husbands line. I am fairly certain that this one is not however. The stone is in very bad condition. It has been broken, but the name was still legible along with his birth date. I was unable to read the date of death due to the stone being broken. I also have photos of a Martin Miller b 15 July 1800 d 19 (?) Sept 1872; Mary Miller, wife of Martin Miller b 5 Jan 1803, d 1 May 1894. I don't know for sure what Miller line these two are. 3. I've been following your thread and find it facinating. My husband is a MILLER descendant and his great grandfather was Jacob Miller, but not your line of Jacobs. There are many of the same surnames involved in his line of Millers also. His Jacob's line originated with the immigrant ancestor Johann Michael Miller into PA, then MD, the Rockingham Co., VA. My husband was born and raised in Bridgewater. 3. Bonnie-- Which Jacob Miller of 1748 would this be. I'm not familiar with that descriptive term but would guess it is Jacob who was affiliated with Adam Miller. From researching the area for my Jacob Millers family, there were at least 2 other Miller families, maybe 3 that were there that early. Adam Miller had a Jacob in his family & Jacob had 200 ac on SE side of Shenandoo River & They were from Lancaster Co., PA. Adam lived near Elkton. This Jacob was there by 1748. Adam was there way before. If he was Adam's son, perhaps he turned of age & started appearing in documents in 1748. I believe there was another Jacob who m. Catharine & came down there from Lancaster Co., PA & also settled on the Elkton side of the Peaked (Massanutten) Mtn. Also in the area 1740's on. My ancestor, Jacob Miller who m. Margaret & his descendants lived on the W. side of Peaked Mtn near present Timberville, on Linville Creek. He was there by 1745 tho he may not have been nr Timberville right at first. If you book contains information on my ancestor, I'd appreciate a lookup. 1. Jacob #2 Miller, b. c1726, d. 1808 Monroe Co., VA, m. Elizabeth FUDGE. b. 1744 Orange (later Augusta & now Rockingham) Co., VA, d. 1777 Greenbrier Co., VA, dtr/o John Peter FUDGE & Catharine MAGGERT/MAEGERT. 2. Jacob #1 Miller, b. 1702 Germany m. Margaret Miller (no relation). They may have stayed or died at Falkner's Swamp, Philadelphia (now Montgomery) Co., PA, but there is a possibility they moved to what is now Rockingham. 3. Jacob #3 Miller, b. c1756 at Jarmon/Jarman, Augusta (now R'ham) Co., VA. Have quite a bit on him. Am wondering if the book tells where Jarmon was. There was a Jarmon/German road & I think it was a little German community nr Timberville, but need confirmation. 4. John Miller, son/o Jacob #1, also lived on Linville Cr 5. George Miller. Know little of him in this area. He moved to Greenbrier Co., VA then KY. Need who he married & his children. 6. Christian & Henry Miller. Would like to find information on them that is accurate. Need descendants. I don't think this Christian was the one who m. Catharine Conrad, dtr/o Stephen. 7. Barbara Miller, dtr/o Jacob #1, m. Jacob Mann, son/o Jerg Bernhardt Mohn, & they lived near McGehesville. 8, Catharine Miller, dtr/o Jacob #1, m. George Conrad. Don't know where they lived. He made whiskey & even after his death in Greenbrier, his estate contained MANY gallons of whiskey & a still. In Greenbrier he had a mill. I don't know his lineage & would like to. He is not Stephen's son Geo, who m. a Greider. I've "gathered" Millers of the area to help me sort out mine. Used land records etc. And information on my line will be appreciated. If the books gets into historical stuff, I'd like to hear what it has. Thanx so much-- Donna You said-- I have the Jacob Miller of 1748 books if anyone needs a lookup. Bonnie Vance Miller

    3. Vera, I am new to this list so you may already have this one without my knowledge. But if you don't already know about it, please add it to your list. Pat Ritchie's e-mail address is: pritchie@mnsinc.com Norman Runyon The tenth annual Brocks Gap Heritage Day will be April 8th, 2000, at Fulks Run Elementary School from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For those who have been to Heritage Day and want to have a display table this time, let me know by March 30 that you want us to save you a space. Please bring your own table, & let me know ahead of time if you need access to an electrical plug. Set-up time will be 5-6:30 p.m. Friday evening or Sat. morning 9:30-10:30. If you haven't been to Heritage Day, here's what happens: My mother & I have an extensive collection of old photos of families in the community, and we've made over 100 displays of them which will be shown at Heritage Day. I'll have all my research & published books available to use plus my collection of other family & local histories. Part of the purpose of Heritage Day is to collect copies of old photos or Bibles or letters or other documents from Brocks Gap families to add them to our general collection for future books. We also preserve the information by giving a copy of the documents we collect to James Madison University Special Collections Library in Harrisonburg. Lewis Yankey, now 96 1/2 years old, has lived in the Criders area of Brocks Gap his entire life. He wrote down lots of stories, traditions, and family connections for the families of the area. About 10 years ago I organized his notebooks and typed about 17 books from his notes, ranging in size from 44 pages to 350 pages. While his books do not bring the families to the present day, his work makes good outlines for starting research. His books will be available at Heritage Day to use for research. New copies will be available for sale. Other family historians will be there to discuss their work & sell their books. Last year at our 9th Heritage Day, 300 people from 10 states attended. Lots of information was traded, cousins were introduced to each other, and I think everyone left with warm feelings about family and heritage. We expect to fill the gym, lunchroom & hallway this year. We will probably have a Civil War reenactor who will reminisce about "his" or "her" life during the Civil War. There is no admission charge (donations accepted to help pay to fix up the old family cemeteries at Fulks Run) Hope to see you at Heritage Day. Pat Turner Ritchie

    3. Bonnie, does your Miller book includes any Flacks? If anyone else has any knowledge of any Rockingham Flacks, I would love to hear about them. I also have a Catherine Miller who was born about 1776 in Rockbridge Co. Catherine married Gaspar Fink. I am new to this list, looking for information on the parents of Rebecca Francis Flack, born in Rockingham Co., in 1797 to John Flack and Mary Crow. Are there any Flack researchers here? She married Peter Light Anderson in Greenbrier Co. I have Anderson information if anyone is looking. Connected to the Augusta Andersons. While I am here, I might as well mention my brickwall, Eli Clark, born in Virginia in 1814. No other clues. He was in Coshocton Co., in central Ohio by 1835, when he married Elizabeth Curtis Dunlap. Happy to share from descendant info on any of my lines. Carolyn (Anderson) Clark MY SURNAMES Virginia/West Virginia: Anderson, Clark, Davis, Elliott, Flack, Knisely, Light, Zickafoose, Dunlap, Curtis, Claypool, Sherman, Coffinberry, Fink, Hedrick, Tuckwiller. and more. 3. Bonnie, Since Jacob Miller is one of those names in my letters that I can't necessarily identify, I thought I would ask which Jacob Miller you are referring to, as there seem to have been quite a few. Is the Jacob Miller you refer to connected in any way with Adam Miller, or is he from a different line? I have run across the name Jacob Miller in association with Woodstock (or at least I think it was Woodstock...). Is this the one you refer to? I ask these questions because I would like to know who "Jacob Miller" and "old Mrs Jacob Miller" were in some old family letters. These letters have been posted to my website: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mdtaffet/letter_series.htm -- Curious about Miller's, Mary Taffet mdtaffet@syr.edu Bvmiller@aol.com wrote: > > I have the Jacob Miller of 1748 books if anyone needs a lookup. > > Bonnie Vance Miller
