Hello Listers, I am searching for information about John Shoults, b. Oct 31, 1781 & d. April 12, 1864 in Ross County, OH. The family information I was given indicated that John was born in York County, PA and I believe that is an error. I have a family tree that was done by my great-uncle in 1942 so I cannot confirm any of these facts. John married Mary Flood Cochran, a widow with 4 children, maybe in OH or maybe in VA as I have no other info about their marriage. I am seeking John's parents and siblings. I also believe that the spelling of the name was changed as it is stated that John spoke German and English. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA, Diane Pugliese dlpobrn@aol.com
Hello everyone As part of my research, I needed the birth records from Shenandoah and Rockingham counties in Virginia, spanning sixty to eighty years around 1860, so I ordered them and they are in. If anyone on this list wants me to look something up for them from those counties, just email me. I have them for about 30 days I think (local Virginia room at the regional library). Please reply to my personal email, not the list, please. Kerry Butler kbutler@biztech.net
AllCensus.com has CD's with built-in viewers for actual census records. They only create a CD if someone orders it--which can take up to three months. Since I ordered Rockingham County for the years, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920 they are in stock. Not cheap--but they are .tif images which beats a poor quality microfilm copy any day. Be aware that there is no index on these CD's. Indexes are available for Rockingham in various forms (some not very good) for the years, 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1900. Following is their site: http://www.interment.net/census/stock_cro.html
Can anyone tell me where I can order Census Records on CD's for Census Records other than the year 1850. I am interested in ones that show the actual census records? Thank you.
Folks, I found it hard to believe, but I just have to check this out. I have a James Foss CHEW who was the son of Louis DeRousse Chew, b. Feb. 14, 1878 and d. Dec. 27, 1920. Mother was Florence Foss, no details known. Now Louis was b. NJ and d. Bronxville, NY I did a Rootsweb SSDI lookup for James Chew, on the basis of the birth date of October 23, 1908. There was only one. Same birth date. Here is what I read... JAMES CHEW Born: 23 Oct 1908 Death: 07 Oct 1989 Last Residence: 22812 (Bridgewater, Rockingham, VA) SSN: 223-07-5313 State of Issue: Virginia What do you folks think? He did not die so long ago. Can anyone find out anything about this for me? Thanks for both reading and considering my request... Vince
There is a search engine that taps into the archives for all rootsweb pages. I think this is it: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl As I understand it, you can search whatever you want: a surname, a location, an event. I also have this -- for searching USGenWeb: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/issearch.htm If these URLs don't work and nobody else gives you something better, let me know and I'll hunt some more. I want to thank the many people that have contacted me giving me names of Miller Books and how to get them. I had no idea that there were so many. You are a wonderful group. As soon as my taxes are finished and my company has left, I will try to write to each of you. Dorris
Looking for information on Mary Crow, born 1763 in Madison Co., VA, parents James and Elizabeth Crow. Mary married John Flack. John was born in Rockingham Co. VA. At least one and probably two of their children lived in Greenbrier Co., VA, but I have no evidence that John and Mary Flack did. Their daughter was Rebecca Flack, born 1797 in Rockingham Co., and there is also a Samuel in Greenbrier, born 1803, that is assumed to be her brother. Rebecca married Peter Light Anderson. Does anyone have any information on these Crows, or Flacks? Roy, John W. Wayland's book, "Virginia Valley Records" has a map of Rockingham County in the front -- it is small but has lots of info. It has Linville Creek and Joe's Creek both on it. Linville Creek runs north and south and is west of Linville. Looks like it may empty into the North Fork Shenandoah at Broadway (I assume Broadway was a town). Joe's Creek runs east and west and is west of Linville. Joe's Creeks seems to empty into Linville Creek west and a little north of Linville (looks to be a little over a mile west of Linville). All of the libraries around here (East Texas) seem to have Wayland's book If I can help, let me know. Good luck. June Everheart. You should go to the map quest page, I don't have the address, but you can zoom in Sandy in Florida Please use good subject lines, many people delete w/o opening all mail called "digest", "my family", "roll call", "surname" or "genealogy". On the surname lists give the first name and dates, not just the surname-which we all have. You want people to read your mail, good subject lines help.

Hi to all Rockingham County Researchers, In continuing the search for my ancestors, Peter and Catharine Sheets, the Rockingham County clerk was very helpful and found land records for them in 1849 to 1856 in the County with such place names as Linville Creek, Joe's Creek (or Run) and John's Run. Can anyone help with the location of these places in the county? Or how to find a land ownership map for this period? Am I right that Linville Creek will go through the town of Linville? I have downloaded the county map for the 1800s from the county home page, but there are no creeks shown with these names. Many Thanks Roy Hayter Mountain View, CA

Didn't find any Seal marriages in Rockingham, but there is one Seal marriage in Augusta County. Peter Seal married Polly Slye October 1, 1807. Minister: William King Maggie
I understand that there is a book that has recently become available concerning the Millers of Rockingham Co., VA. Can anyone tell me if it is still available, how to order it and the cost? I assume that it would be helpful in sorting out my Millers. dorrisl1@aol.com
I'm new to this list. Does anyone out there have access to the early Rockingham County marriage records? I am looking for the marriage of William Seale/Seal. He was married in Rockingham Co in abt 1815. His wife's first name may have been Elizabeth. Would also be interested in any other info on the Seal families in Rockingham prior to 1820. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Meredith DeBuse Woodland, WA
This is in reply to Donna's message Vol 00 issue 21. I have a John Miller that married Caty Bowman on 9 June 1771and moved to Washington Co., TN. He died there in 1822. His birth date was estimated 1755-1771 John's oldest son was Jacob Miller. I suspect that John's father was Jacob. I received an e-mail telling me that there was a Jacob that was a brother to Adam Miller and that Jacob came to Rockingham Co. The person that sent it was to busy to help me at the time. That person was working a lot of overtime. If anyone has any information on this, I would appreciate it. Dorris dorrisl1@aol.com
