    1. [VAROCKIN] Vance Reunion
    2. Koren Fae Rawlings
    3. On July 9th, 11am, at the Princess Snowbird Campgrounds, the descendants of John and Nancy Vance will hold their reunion. This will be the 20th year that Daniel Vance has been president of the reunion committee, and he has done a wonderful job. John Vance [1746-1827] was a Revolutionary War veteran, and received land in Pendleton Co, VA (WVa) , behind Seneca Rocks, for his service. He and Nancy were married at Fort Pitt , ca. October 1773. They had seven children. John was from the Winchester, VA area. The reunion is a covered dish lunch, after a business meeting, with a speaker, and music provided by the Winebrenners. Pictures are shared, lineages, and family stories abound. All family and friends are invited to come and enjoy the day. Koren Fae Rawlings / William J. Vance 304-358-3261 P.O. 1. [VAROCKIN] Simon Miller; 1880 Census Index
    2. Dear Listers-- Is anyone researching the Miller family of Rockingham? In the 1900 Census of Rockingham, the household of Simon Miller, an 83-year old widower, includes his mother-in-law, Anne Pane (or is it Paul?), aged 90. Does anyone have any information on this family? Also, does anyone have an index to the 1880 Census of Rockingham? If so, what page is Simon Miller found on? Thanks in advance, Kevin Thompson katatty@socket.net

    1. [VAROCKIN] Re: Primitive Baptist Church late 1700s/early 1800s
    2. Harry M. Strickler, "A Short History of Page County, Virginia" has information on the Primitive Baptist Churchs that were located in what is now Page County and also surrounding areas in Virginia. According to Strickler, a group constituted in Virginia about 1790 and came out of what was called White House Church, was transported to Ohio in a body around 1805 by its founders on account of antislavery principles. Three ministers went to Ohio with the congregation, Lewis Seits, Samuel Comer and Martin Kauffman. The church was known as the Pleasant Run Baptist Church and was located eight miles east of Lancaster, Fairfield County, Ohio, at Strickler's Cross Roads. Strickler reproduces a list, dated 1806-1809, of some 88 members, from the Church Record Book. Elder Lewis Seitz was the first pastor. There was no mention that any members on the list coming from Rockingham County. However, since Page County was formed from Rockingham County (approximately southern third of Page County) and Shenandoah County (remainder) in 1831, perhaps some members were from the southern part of present-day Page County. Strickler also notes that a reunion was held at the Pleasant Run Church in 1950 with practically every family from the above list being represented. Joe Baker

    2. Justin L. Marple
    3. Let me add the allied names of Frankham (Frankum), Andes, and Peterson to my Whitesel, Showalter, Ashby query. I descend from Walker Jefferson Frankham and Sarah Catherine Showalter. I also am a descendant of William Peterson and Sallie Beasley through Mary Catherine Peterson and Samuel Showalter (parents of Sarah Catherine Showalter). I also have problems with Sarah Showalter's daughter's husband's family. In other words, Wildie Rose Frankham (daughter of Sarah Showalter and W.J. Frankham) married Jackson Davis Whitesel (J.D. Whitesel was the brother in H.N. Whitesel & Brother). J.D.'s parents were Simon Whitesel and Catherin Andes. Catherin Andes was the daughter of Andrew. I do have more information on these people mentioned, however, I do not have enough information to move upward/outward/inward in these parts of the family. Thanks for any assistance you might be able to provide. Previous message I sent: I am researching the Whitesel (various spellings), Showalter, and allied families like the Ashby's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 1. [VAROCKIN] DATES: Jacob H. Trumbo/France-Rockingham/1714
    2. Sue Koller
    3. SORRY TO EVERYONE. I always seem to forget the dates. I did mention 1714 in the Subject and that is the guessed time of birth for Jacob, Mary was about 1718. Their first child was b. 1740 and the last around 1755, these are not firm years. Jacob H. Trumbo married to a lady named-Mary, no surname for her. I have 7 children listed for this couple. It looks like they were all born in the Rockingham area, all with the middle name "Mary". They are: Jacob; Margaret; Andrew; Elizabeth; John; George; and Dorothy. I have this Trumbo family down through 1911 in LaSalle County, ILL. Other surnames associated with this Trumbo family are: Long; Grove; Gibson; Jackson; Strawn; Robinson; Davis; Gray; Begs; Lair; Harness; Rhinehart; Custer; and Oats/Utz. Willing to share any of this information, but am looking for more in Jacob H's ancestors. Thanks Sue
