Fellow researchers, I am seeking help with SCHUTTLER, SHETLER, SHATTLER links to Rockingham Co. VA during the 1820-1840 period. Primarily I am trying to establish a link between Aberhads F. Shetler page 261 of the 1830 Rockingham census and A. F. Shattler who appears on the 1840 and 1850 Clark Co., OH census. Also, E. F. SCHUTTLER and sons Eberhard Fred and Ja. Gotfried landed in Phil. 16 Aug 1816. Again a listing appears in Boston Nov 1816 for Eberhard Schuttler and wife Christine M. Pfizer along with sons Jakob Gottfried and Eberhard Friedrich. Could these be one in the same? And could this be Aberhads who came to Rockingham Co., VA. Why am I looking? My GGrandfather JOHN WESLEY SHATTLER identified his birthplace as VA. on Dec. 19, 1821 and both parents being born in Germany. He later married JANE DONOVAN in Clark Co., OH June 6, 1844. The only adult who meets the age profile for his father is A. F. Shattler. Another clue, my grandfather, John Wesley Shattler Jr. ran away and got married. On the marriage certificate he gave the name Fred Shattler as his name. Could this connect him to his grandfather, Eberhard Fredick? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Regards, Donald Shattler, Lake Wales, FL
I have just published a book for sale of abstracted land grants of Augusta Co, VA. If anyone is interested contact me by e-mail. One vol. in three sections, fully indexed. Rockingham was formed in 1778 from Augusta Co. and any lands granted before that would be from Augusta. Chester R. Johnson Hurst, TX

Would be interested if any Good Family researchers who note an Arabella in their files. Certainly an unusual given name. Supposedly this couple was in Rockingham County at some point. Given the Irish name of Cunnyngham/Cunningham will also post this query at the Augusta County site. Am looking to see if this couple had a child named James who married Catharine Geiger. Catharine was born December 27, 1778 in Manheim, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Catharina's parents were George Geiger, born June 2, 1748 in Warwick Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and Barbara Klein/Kline born (unknown) in Clay Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Catharina's half-brother, Christian Kyger (surname change) was in Rockingham County by 1769. Are you confused yet? (I am.) Thanks for listening, Maggie Kyger Miller
