Hi Marge Thanks for getting in touch with me. I am descended from Catherine Thuma and Benjamin Huffman. I am particularly interested in John Thuma's ancestors. I have his parents as Durs Thoma and Sophia_____, his grandparents as Durs Thommen and Unknown, and his great grandparents as Durs Thommen and Barbara___ or Onakind Moore. I have almost no information on them. In addition to Catherine, Rebecca and John, I have additional children as Elizabeth, b. 6/5/1812, Peter, b. 8/31/1807, and Magdalena, b. 1/25/1815. Levinson, p. 78 & 79, Matthias Beaver is deeded property from Valentine Sevier, through is atty. Geo. Ruddle, on 22, Oct., 1787. Earlier that year, in "Abstract of Land Grant Surveys, Augusta & Rockingham Counties, 1761-1791", by Peter Cline Kaylor, p. 121 [71] & 122 [72], Matthias Beaver is listed as a neighbor in a survey of Philimon Roack, between Smiths Creek and Long Meadows, on 13 April, 1787; and another survey for George Springer between Smiths Creek and Long Meadows, same date. Also, that same year, Matthias Beaver was taxed for 386 acres in Rockingham Co., VA. From the web site for "Virginia Land Office Patents and Grants", Patents E, 1776-1776, 1780-1781 (Vol. 1 & Vol. 2),pp. 641 & 642, Valentine Sevier was awarded a Patent for 386 acres in County of Augusta, on a branch of Shanando called the Long Meadow, bounded as such: Beginning at two pines, a corner his land, South seven degrees West one hundred and eighty poles to a pine and South Seventy five degrees East twenty four poles to a pine; North fifty degrees East three hundred and fifty four poles to a black oak; and thence South East twenty poles to two white oak saplins; thence North fifty degrees East forty poles to a pine; thence North forty degrees West eighty poles to two pines; and thence South seventy two degrees West three hundred and twenty four poles to the Beginning, dated 1 Sept., 1780.
