I was wondering if in that 1787 tax list there was a Joseph Young? Perhaps he was dead by then but maybe a widow or children were still around. They came from Shenandoah County so should be just over the county line but, I realize that should and really are, are two different things. Thanks so much Betty Annis

Wanda Nazelrod Polyniak- My family line began spelling their name Hawes only after 1853 when they moved to Champaign Co., Ohio. I do not have a Elizabeth, Hannah, or Peter. I have never seen a House linked to my line. However, I have considered the possibility. In what time frame did Deloris and Otis Jr live? Perhaps if someone is checking the Tax List for his CLEMENS, you would take a few extra minutes to see if there is any mention of the Charles or Carl RAREY or RORIG in Rockingham Co during this period. Sorry I can't be more sure of which surname was used. Sometime fairly soon after Carl RORIG arrived on the Britannia from Rotterdam > Portsmouth > Philadelphia, PA 26 Oct 1767 - he changed his name to Charles RAREY. He married Margaret Wolfe (Wolf OR Simpson) in 1778 in Pennsylvania, and they had 10 children born in Rockingham Co between 1778 and 1795 before moving to Franklin Co, OH. Hopefully, he appears on the 1787 Rockingham County Personal Property Tax List - we've never been able to find out exactly where they were living in VA. Any help - or suggestions - on tracing this family would be most appreciated. There is a road that runs in front of Daniel Harrison's house near the Rockingham Historical Society's site that is known as Bowman's Road. Does anyone know how long the road has been called that and what Bowmans it was named after? My ancestor Cornelius Bowman was married at the Cooks Creek Presbyeterian Church near there in 1764 and was probably a neighbour of Daniel Harrison. His parents lived on Linville Creek near the land where the Lincolns and Byrans lived. I don't know if Cornelius had any siblings other than a sister Deborah who was born in 1740. His parents Peter Bowman and Margaret Scholl Bowman were married in Readington NJ and later migrated to VA to live near Margaret's father Capt. Peter Scholl. By about 1772 Cornelius migrated to NC.
