Ken and Faye, I checked the census for 1860 and found a Margaret married to Thomas Ayres, age 50. Do you think it possible that Margaret married Thomas Ayres whose household she was living in the 1850 census? I know that she was married to Andrew Black about 3 years prior to marrying John M. Smith. Let me know what you think. Although this isn't my line, I find it very interesting. Another thing, after checking the ages, it wouldn't be possible for John M.'s father to be my husbands' ggg-grandfather's brother. He could have been the son of my John's son, James, though. The 1860 census gives Margaret but is apparently wrong..
